cex in Windows vs. Linux
I go back and forth from Linux to Windoze often and have to run the same r-scripts. I was wondering why it seems like the default plotting size of labels, symbols, titles, etc seem smaller in Linux than in Windows. Is there a quick way to remedy this so I don't have to manually change the cex settings from 1 to 1.3 every time I go from Windoze to Linux? -- Sincerely,

Putting value labels inside the bars of a bar plot
I'd like to label a bar plot with the actual value of each bar, inside the bar. I see that there are ways to plot arbitrary text, so I could do it 'manually', but this seems common enough that there's probably a simple solution. I don't see it in the high-level documentation for barplot, and haven't found it anywhere yet. How might this be done? Thanks, Tom

active pdf/annotated visualization RFC
How can R users take advantage of the "active PDF" paradigm for annotation of statistical graphics? The basic objective is to take a small number of locations on a graph and hyperlink them -- add persistent information to the pdf rendering of the graph so that when the user clicks on the location, a browser is (started if necessary and) pointed to a URL specified by the persistent

trouble positioning legends on barplot written to a file
I'm trying to generate some plots for print publication and I'm having trouble getting them the way I want. I get a plot with a legend that overlaps the bars and looks bad. Also, I'm saving this as PDF file (whatever happened to the "png" function to save as PNG format, in r 1.4.1?) I've tried a number of things, which produce a number of questions. 1) it seems that the
