Fully supported 12-port SATA cards?
I am helping a friend who is build a storage server for his company and I have advocated for Solaris and ZFS. But now we are having trouble to find any good SATA controller for 12+ disks, there are Areca cards, but they seems very flaky (24 port support, but hangs with more than 12 in JBOD mode, hangs on disk failures etc). The AOC-SAT2-MV8,AOC-USAS-L8i have been mentioned, but it had

Long import due to spares.
Just for history as to why Fishworks was running on this box...we were in the beta program and have upgraded along the way. This box is an X4240 with 16x 146GB disks running the Feb 2010 release of FW with de-dupe. We were getting ready to re-purpose the box and getting our data off. We then deleted a filesystem that was using de-duplication and the box suddenly went into a freeze and the pool had activity like crazy. After several failed...

LVM and ZFS
...ses errors on the console about "Bus and lots of "stalled" I/O. But as soon as I wrap that device inside an LVM metadevice and then use it in the ZFS zpool things work perfectly fine and smoothly (no stalls). Situation 1 is when trying to use Intel X25-E or X25-M SSD disks in a Sun X4240 server with the LSI SAS controller - I never could get things to run without errors no matter what. ZFS for ISCSI ntfs backing store.
I''m looking to move our file storage from Windows to Opensolaris/zfs. The windows box will be connected through 10g for iscsi to the storage. The windows box will continue to serve the windows clients and will be hosting approximately 4TB of data. The physical box is a sunfire x4240, single AMD 2435 processor, 16G ram, LSI 3801E HBA, ixgbe 10g card. I''m looking for suggestions about optimum recordsize/blocksize and general tuning from someone whose been down this road. It will be hosting about 4TB of data for now. thanks. -- This message posted from opensolaris.o...

Can I trust ZFS?
Hey folks, I guess this is an odd question to be asking here, but I could do with some feedback from anybody who''s actually using ZFS in anger. I''m about to go live with ZFS in our company on a new fileserver, but I have some real concerns about whether I can really trust ZFS to keep my data alive if things go wrong. This is a big step for us, we''re a 100% windows

zfs list improvements?
To improve the performance of scripts that manipulate zfs snapshots and the zfs snapshot service in perticular there needs to be a way to list all the snapshots for a given object and only the snapshots for that object. There are two RFEs filed that cover this: http://bugs.opensolaris.org/view_bug.do?bug_id=6352014 : ''zfs list'' should have an option to only present direct
