Can I install CentOS 4.2 on Sun X4100?
Hi, all! I want to change current RHEL 4.0 ES into CentOS 4.2 on Sun X4100 server. The server has SAS SCSI based two 2.5" hard disks. I could only install RHEL 4.0 Update 1 because the server is equipped with RHEL 4.0 Update 1's device driver only. I've included below the boot process messages concerned with SCSI controller. If it's possible for me to in...

SunFire X2100 and X4100
Anyone seen either of these "in the wild" yet? RHEL3/RHEL4 are install options so I'm assuming CentOS will just work out of the box, but I thought I'd ask here. The 2100 seems like a viable alternative to whitebox 1RU boxes that we currently use, especially with the new dual core processors. Cheers,

aaccli on recent conrollers?
I have just built a new SunFire X4100 server with an Adaptec 2230SLP RAID card using FreeBSD 6.2-PRE kernel (from September 20). Everything is working extremely well except I cannot run the aaccli utility on this controller. When I try to open the controller, it gives this error: Command Error: <The current AFAAPI.DLL is to...

gcc4 compiler warnings
Hi all! The following files emits warnings when compiled with gcc 4.0: al175.c bcmxcp_ser.c belkinunv.c cyberpower.c everups.c powercom.c solis.c All warnings seem to be of this variety: everups.c:38: warning: pointer targets in passing argument 2 of 'ser_get_char' differ in signedness I suggest that those who fiddles with those drivers fixes the warnings and verifies that it works

Is round-robin I/O correct for ZFS?
I''m testing an Iscsi multipath configuration on a T2000 with two disk devices provided by a Netapp filer. Both the T2000 and the Netapp have two ethernet interfaces for Iscsi, going to separate switches on separate private networks. The scsi_vhci devices look like this in `format'': 1. c4t60A98000433469764E4A413571444B63d0 <NETAPP-LUN-0.2-50.00GB>

LSI Logic controller status
Hello, Recently we bought HP bl35 blades with LSI Logic SAS controllers. mpt* drivers works fine but I would like to somehow view status from command line. To monitor e.g. if one of the HDDs failed. I found mptutil on LSI Logic site but it just shows me configuration in quite cryptic form. Thanks, Mindaugas

TCP checksum change in RPC replies within XEN, NFS lockup (SLES10)
Hello, my apologies for not being sure whom to tell this problem, but it is very strange. Let me tell the story: I''m using XEN (3.0.2) with SLES10 (x86_64, SunFire X4100). On one machine I have three virtual machines ("DomU") that are very identically configured (SLES10 x86_64 also). There is also a SLES9 (i386) acting as a multi-homed NFS server. I can mount and access a read-only NFS filesystem on the server from Dom0 (hypervisor), and from two of t...

194 Kernel Panic; 164 is Fine; How Do I Debug?
I have a machine that has worked fine for years on CentOS5. kernel-PAE-2.6.18-164.15.1.el5 is the last "works fine" kernel, but kernel-PAE-2.6.18-194.3.1.el5 crashes at boot every time. I tried banging on the side of the monitor to no avail. All kidding aside, here are pictures of my monitor when booting 194 in case that is helpful.

3510 configuration for ZFS
...r single parity with two hot-spares). using 300GB drives this would give roughly 2.4TB of usable space. I am presuming I will want the RAID module purely for the additional caching, and create a single LUN for each disk and present those to ZFS. the disk will most likely be directly attached to an X4100/X4200 using MPxIO, exported via NFS (some Linux NFSv3 clients, some Solaris 9, 10 and Nevada). I would like to get a feel for what others are doing in similar configurations. is the 3510 RAID module cache effective in such a configuration? I wasn''t able to find any definitive answer to th...

Anyone running VMWARE server on CentOS?
Hi, I guess the subject says it all.. I am thinking about combining a few servers onto a single server since they mostly do nothing much at all which would mean there would be less load on the UPS and a lot less noise in my office.. Since VMWare server is now free its probably the perfect time to do it.. The only issue is getting the VMWare up and running.. I would prefer to run it on

Cacti - Monitor Ferret Server Stats?
I''m wondering if someone can point me in a direction to monitor the ferret drb server while using cacti. Is it possible to run multiple instances of ferret drb on the same machine, just on different ports? Will it still update the index properly, or will you get collision? New to moving over to the drb server. Thanks. -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

CentOS and Dell Support
I'm a fairly experienced RH and Fedora user and admin looking to try CentOS for the first time. I have lots of experience with Dell servers and I'd like to stick with them. Although I'm sure it's not always strictly enforced, Dell claims that it won't provide warranty hardware support on servers installed with an un-Dell-supported OS (basically, anything other Windows, RH, and

I''m trying to create a OpenSolaris DOMU (snv_44) by following the howto described at http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/xen/howto/create-osox-domu/. Rule of Thumb for zfs server sizing with (192) 500 GB SATA disks?
...0 MB/sec over NFS for large movie files (need large capacity to hold all of them). Are there any rules of thumb on how much RAM is needed to handle this (probably RAIDZ for all the disks) with zfs, and how large a server should be used? The throughput required is not so large, so I am thinking an X4100 M2 or X4150 should be plenty. This message posted from opensolaris.org

Z-Raid performance with Random reads/writes
Given a 1.6TB ZFS Z-Raid consisting 6 disks: And a system that does an extreme amount of small /(<20K) /random reads /(more than twice as many reads as writes) / 1) What performance gains, if any does Z-Raid offer over other RAID or Large filesystem configurations? 2) What is any hindrance is Z-Raid to this configuration, given the complete randomness and size of these accesses?
