WMD: the Wysiwym Markdown Editor
Hi, I recently released WMD, a WYSIWYG-style Markdown editor in JavaScript: http://wmd-editor.com/ The idea is to make Markdown more accessible to first-time users. The editor buttons generate the Markdown for you, and a live preview shows the results as you type. Site authors can have the output submitted in either Markdown or HTML. Bye Bye, Observers
Observers will be no more as of Rails 4, farewell, never been much of a fan. However, I''m using it in one of my gems which enables model attributes for use with a WYSIWYM editor. The resulting markup is persisted, but in order to use it in a view, it has to be nokogiried in a helper which fragment caches the result. This cache has to be zapped once the model instance is either updated or destroyed. An observer for after_update and after_destroy seemed the obviou...

Working comfortably with (X)Emacs + Sweave
...have not found a way to refresh this, maybe there's some magical XEmacs keystroke that rereads the file from the disk?, so I keep opening/closing it) 3. compile the LaTeX file This is a bit tedious as I like to compile often, because I like to see the way my document looks (I know that TeX is WYSIWYM, but I prefer to check my formulas instantly). A "call sweave and then latex on this file in one go" and "show the DVI that was produced from this Rnw file...

You "should" never get invalid code using these tecniques and you could use some kind of helper to get common code, but you have to write imaging the output and sometimes you have to remember to escape something WYSIWYG You get easly what you want, but someti...

latex writer in gnome?
Does anybody know the gnome program that you can write in latex with please? I'm not sure but I think its in the base repo. Its not winefish as it (winefish) doesn't compile the source text like the program that I'm looking for does. Hopefully thanks Sharon. -- 16:41:46 up 1 day, 16:56, 2 users, load average: 1.54, 1.45, 1.51 A taste of linux

A challenge from a CMS implementer
Hey guys RoR evangelists keep telling us that they have the #1 framework for developing webapps. OK, but show us something that works and is useful to many people out there. I could be wrong, but it doesn''t seem as if there is anything that qualifies, as yet? So I''ve got a little challenge for you: come up with a decent plugin WYSIWYG visual editor for CMS. There are several
