Round 2 - Guest Share on WXP Host
Thanks to everyone who has tried to help so far. Not quite there but I
think I'm close. For anyone new, it's a private 2 comp network (RH9 and
WXP) so I just want the simplest guest access possible.
This is my current smb.conf file:

workgroup = SAMBA
encrypt passwords = yes
smb passwd file = /etc/samba/smbpasswd
security = share

Curiosity when installing CentOS 5.1 in addition to W98 & WXP
...$
(because I rarely use this machine, but others who don't have a clue
use Wxx), but then while the packages were downloading, I left the
machine alone. When I came back, it had rebooted to the DVD, so I
pulled it out and rebooted again.
It came up in the Windows boot selection screen (W98 or WXP), and
never stopped at grub.
Should I not have set it to go to Windows by default, or is this
something different?
Thanks.

samba 3 LDAP/PDC problem - adding WXP account
Hi,
I've finally gotten my LDAP password backend up and running, and finally figured out the SID 1000/1001 thing for Samba admin.
However I'm unable to join the workstation to my domain.
Using any random user in the WXP dialogue, I get the "Access is Denied" error. Fair enough.
Using the user with sambasid and sambagroupsid s-*-1000/s-*-1001, I get the error "The Username could not be found". This error is probably not referring to the login user, as that one is validated (I get another error i...

Accessing Shares with WXP Pro
Let me rephrase my question:
How do I access shares with WXP Pro. I don't want to be part of a
domain. I just want to be able to search for the server from the
computer, map a network drive to a share, and then life will be good.
With that said, right now I can find the server. I can double-click it.
But what comes up is a login box that only l...

Subject: [Xen-users] Run xen with a dual boot system
Hi, I have a system with Debian and Wxp. I like debian, but sometimes I need to run wxp (work issues), and I have to stop debin, reboot and select wxp in grub to start it.
I will like to get wxp on a "virtual machine" over my debian. I don''t want a 100% virtual wxp, because, I maybe need to reboor and start only wit...

No Domain Controller, Please help to interpret tcpdump
Greetings!
I am still struggling with the issue that after vampiring from NT4
domain to Samba 3.0.7 with ldap backend, Windows XP cannot find the domain
controller.
In particular, WXP is an XP Prof which signed in AB_INITIO_DOM domain.
After the migration I put the Samba Server (Priscilla) and WXP in an
isolated network, and started up Priscilla as PDC for the network. But WXP
complains that "the domain controller" is not available.
But WXP can re-join the doma...

Sharing Printer - Insufficient rights?
Hello Samba List,
i have problems sharing, or better connecting to a printer shared via samba
(3.0.10):
Situation:
- W2K ADS Domain - which auth's the users
- WXP Client, which log's in via the W2K-ADS (and auth's of course)
- Samba (Linux) ADS-Member, which shares Printer and $HOME
- security=ADS
- winbind to get AUTH-Info from the W2K ADS Controller
Everything seems to work perfect: the samba client see's the
domain-users/groups and (after...

Attempt to move a WXP client to another Samba domain.
We have successfully added a windows XP client to the domain on the test
network. We are able to logon to the domain, connect to the shares, etc.
all is as it should be.
We then tried to connect the XP client to the production network (same
version of samba, same smb.conf file).
No joy.
We remove the machine from the test network domain, by joining a false
workgroup on the client. Reboot the

OT - Windows slowdown?
...verything I thought I'd ask.
About two months ago I resurrected my daughter's Compaq laptop (cracked
screen - replaced it) and ran an update on it. It's running Windows XP, SP1
(I think), but since the update it has run about 1/3 as fast as it used to.
Does anyone know if there was a WXP update that killed performance on
laptops? None of my other XP installs, SP1 or SP2, suffers from this.
(Actually, I should say "their other" 'cuz I don't use Windows unless I
can't avoid it, and then I try to do it on my WXP VM where it's still
relatively safe.)
Thanks...

Guest Share Access Fails for Win XP Client
Hi,
I'm trying to set up a transfer area between my RH9 box and my WXP box.
Preferably no password would be required on the WXP box, but I'll take
anything after the ridiculous amount of time I've spent on this. If
anyone can help I'd really appreciate it. At this point I'd be willing
to offer my first born child as a reward. And I'll throw in my...

SAMBA 3 as PDC - W2K/WXP Pro logon trouble
I have a Samba 3 PDC running with an LDAP backend on Red Hat 8. All
authentication appears to be working correctly but I can't login to the
domain from a W2K or WXP Pro workstation after I have successfully joined
them to the domain. If I login locally to the workstation I can browse the
Samba shares just fine. I have checked the schannel and sign or seal
settings on both the workstations and the server and made sure they were set
to disable but still no luc...
