"Data Analysis and Graphics Using R - An Introduction"
I've now processed this document through Acrobat software. The
navigation keys in Acrobat Reader should now handle it properly.
The other advantage is a dramatic reduction in size, to half
a megabyte. The new file is
http://wwwmaths.anu.edu.au/~johnm/r/r4dat-gr.pdf
Data sets [use source() to access them from an R session] are
in the same directory, i. e.
http://wwwmaths.anu.edu.au/~johnm/r/
The scripts are in the file:
http://wwwmaths.anu.edu.au/~johnm/r/r4dat-gr.dis
One of the fonts is a bit fuzzy in the screen display....

Additions to the datasets package?
I have posted, at http://wwwmaths.anu.edu.au/~john/r/newsets/
image (.rda) files, and first stabs at .Rd files for various data on
deaths in London from 1629 to 1939. (There are of course gaps.)
The sources (Guy 1882 & Stocks 1942) are documented in the
.Rd files:
(1) poxetc: measles, smallpox & total deaths: 1629-1881

Enhanced version of plot.lm()
...g outside the plot area,
where they can overlap other graphical features.
The parameter label.pos allows users to change this default.
The modified code that I propose is below. This, a modified .Rd
file, and files from diff used with the April 20 development version,
are in my directory
http://wwwmaths.anu.edu.au/~johnm/r/plot-lm/
I believe the Residual-Leverage plot is given in Krause & Olsen,
whether with Cook's distance contours I do not recall. I do not
have access to a copy of this book. Martin Maechler drew my
attention to it in 2003, as superior to the Cook's distance plot....

TeX distribution on Windows
I'm looking for a Windows distribution of TeX that works with R, after a
few years' absence from Windows. On Duncan Murdoch's Rtools page fptex is
still recommended, but it turns out that fptex is "defunct" as of May 2005,
see
http://www.metz.supelec.fr/~popineau/xemtex-7.html
So, what is suggested? TUG (tug.org) recommends something called proTeXt,
which is said to be

"Data Analysis and Graphics Using R"
I have just put up a new version of this 109 page pdf document, at:
http://wwwmaths.anu.edu.au/~johnm/r-notes/r-notes.pdf
The file containing the scripts (r-intro.dis) is in the same directory,
as are datasets [.R files; use source(<filename>)] that are not in the
current R libraries.
This replaces a version that had been posted earlier this week, in
which the final charac...

Using R for Data ... (was "Data Analysis and ...")
...my document on R.
I have corrected a number of errors and moved much of the
detailed material on data structures to follow the chapter
on exploration of multivariate data. I have changed the name;
it is now:
Using R for Data Analysis and Graphics - An Introduction
The new document lives at:
wwwmaths.anu.edu.au/~johnm/r/usingR.pdf
My web page has information on where to find scripts
and data sets (in the directories scripts/ and dsets/).
There are now separate scripts for each chapter,
except that 1&2 have been combined and 3&4 are
combined.
I changed the name because John Braun and m...

I don't find "fuzzy matching"
hello.
I'm a student that work on R.(version 1.7.0)
I need to some data frames such as
"possum","Beams"'"kiwishade","dolphins",... .
I typed help.search("possum") and so on,but the
response was "No help files found with alias or title
matching 'possum' using fuzzy matching.".
I dont know what is "fuzzy matching"

Solutions to Exercises - Data Analysis & Graphics Using R
...ith John Braun for teaching
purposes. I am using this channel of communication
in the absence of any other obvious effective channel.
I ask the forbearance of list members.
Our intention is to post solutions to selected exercises
(the more challenging exercises) on the web, via a link
from http://wwwmaths.anu.edu.au/~johnm/r-book.html
Anyone who would find this inconvenient should contact
me directly.
I will shortly post a provisional list on the above web site.

error bars
Dear all,
is there an easy way to create error bars for the following types of plots:
a) barplots
b) interaction plots
Many other statistics packages (e.g. Statistica) offer very nice
interaction plots with error bars, and I??d like to be able to do the
same in R.
Best regards
Christoph

download of 1.9.1
Hi there,
I downloaded version 1.9.1 WinZip file, 9.367 bytes ( so I can update my R
and use the vcd package) but cannot get the download from your Web site to
unzip and install. So silly!
The error message is :" Error reading header after processing 0
entries." I tried downloading from 3 different URLs, all yielding the same
message when I try to unzip and install the file.

multinomial logistic regression
Hi, how can I do multinomial logistic regression in R?
I think glm() can only handle binary response
variable, and polr() can only handle ordinal response
variable. how to do logistic regression with
multinomial response variable?
Thanks

R: regression data set
hi all
i am busy teaching a regression analysis course to second year science
students. the course is fairly theoretical with all of the standard
theorems and proofs...
i would like to give the class a practical assignment as well. could you
suggest a good problem and the location of the data set/s?
it would be good if the data set has been analysed by a number of other
people so that students

Binary Logit Regression with R
Hi to all,
I am a PH.D Student doing statistical analysis.
I am totally new to R. I previously use Stata and am changing into R. I
ususally do with logit regression with binary dependent variable (war
occurence:1 or 0).
I just want to know command to do that. More sepcifically,
Let say, my Y is war occurence (occur=1, otherwise 0). And my independent
variables (Xs) are trade, democracy,
