how to run CentOS 8.2 under new WSL2?
I want to run CentOS 8.2 (2004) under Windows 10 Pro (2004) that comes with
WSL2
1. Is there a list of steps anywhere, that would help me download what I
need, and get CentOS 8.2 running under WSL2?
2. What would I need to download? (need direct URL - there are so many
options for CentOS 8.2 , I am confused)
3. What steps would I need to take to get this running locally on my...

I cannot reproduce this issue (version 20H2, build 19042.630; Ubuntu
20.04 installed from the store). Are you sure you are running on WSL2?
(You can check this with `wsl --list --verbose`).

Installing in RStudio Server in Windows WSL2
Hi,
I am following the below instructions for setting up an RStudio server in
Windows.
https://support.rstudio.com/hc/en-us/articles/360049776974-Using-RStudio-Server-in-Windows-WSL2
I am a novice so I might be making an obvious mistake, but I am receiving
an error in step 3 of the RStudio server setup. I entered the below code
into ubuntu:
sudo add-apt-repository 'deb https://cloud.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu
focal-cran40/'
and I received the error message:

Has anyone else seen this? I am wondering if this is an oddity in WSL2
or Ubuntu's gcc-9.3.0.

Almost surely it is Windows/WSL related, I'm not seeing this on Ubuntu
20.04.
One thing to check might be the FPU control word. In a Windows build, R
will set as it is on Unix, to use all 80 bits when values stay in FPU

Proposal: Integrating Rust Toolchain into Rtools for Rust-Based R Package Development
.... The latter can be (and is) built
on Linux, without any involvement of Msys2. It doesn't use the Cygwin
runtime in any way. In principle, one could use the latter only without
the former, provided one has an alternative set of build tools (so
perhaps the original Cygwin distribution, maybe WSL2 - even though, this
is not tested, some details surely would have to be figured out). The
latter is what includes the toolchains (and libraries), and can be also
downloaded as a tarball - this is convenient for people who have their
own installation of Msys2 they use. Also it is good for github...

permission problems -xml2
Apologies if this is the incorrect place for this question.? New Debian user here (via WSL on Windows). I've been installing packages (using install.packages) in to /usr/local/lin/R/site-library without problem until I tried to install xml2. When installing it gives the error message:
mv: cannot move '/usr/local/lib/R/site-library/00LOCK-xml2/00new/xml2' to

Performance regression of Windows clients?
...r the file manager GUI ?
Thanks for reaching out, I also suspected there's no alternate SMB client...
We tried both the GUI, to be as close as possible to what users would
do, and a Powershell script. Both behave the same.
For the sake of it, I just tried to use the Linux SMB client within
WSL2: but Windows does not support mounting CIFS that way, only via
their own native client!

Performance regression of Windows clients?
Hello Samba experts,
I'd like to revive an old thread from 2017, where a performance
regression of the Windows client implementation of SMB was discussed
(https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2017-August/210366.html).
We run a ctdb-managed cluster of Samba gateways to our distributed file
system, and we have performed similar tests with the latest production
Samba 4.12 release, using

Proposal: Integrating Rust Toolchain into Rtools for Rust-Based R Package Development
Dear R-devel community,
I'm exploring (experimentally) the integration of the Rust toolchain into
Rtools, to enable smoother development and shipping of Rust-based R packages
on Windows.
I've written a detailed blog post documenting the process, technical rationale
and what?s next:
