help on using 'sum' in writng a function
Hi, I am writing a function that includes 'sum' function
such as:
f<-function(x){
c<-c(-1,0,1)
f<-sum(c+x)
}
expecting f to be -1+x+0+x+1+x=3x. But I found out that f is
sum(x). So, f is always a scalar, which means that f(c(0,1))
is not a vector as c(0,3), but 3(0+1)=3. I would like to ask
you helping me in solving this problem. I would like to
thank you in advance.
Sungsu.

about the generalized linear models
Hello,
I'm writng this message to see if anyone knows how to analyze a data with
geometrically distributed outcome.
My situation now is : I have a outcome which is geometrically distributed. And
I've also self-derived the link function for geometric distribution. I want to
use generalized linear models to analy...

Evidently I have to go look in include/llvm-c, since I stronlgly suspect
you didn't go to the trouble of writng a C wrapper for anything that
wasn't needed by an LLVM user. Anything internal you'd have left in C++.
So the API for a C++ *user* could be described as "those parts of the
internals API that happen to be used in implementing llvm-c.
What I found in llvm-c was core.h. Is that wha...

Paths in knitr
...e documentation of knitr says:
base.dir: (NULL) an absolute directory under which the plots are generate
root.dir: (NULL) the root directory when evaluating code chunks; if NULL,
the directory of the input document will be used

plots, it is then also used for reading plots if set? No, it is not.
If I set the root directory to the plots/graphics directory will knitr
then find my plots? No, it does not.
Reading blog posts my thoughts looked not so strange to me, e.g.

who is the end user of libvirt-iohelper?
Hello everybody!
I'm trying to make some experiments with writing/reading stream to/from
volume. I've realized that libvirt-iohelper are ran to make this
operations:
1) reading stream from stdin and writng to a file
2) reading stream from a file and writing to stdout
I've also realized that virsh uses libvirt-iohelper via
virStorageVolUpload/virStorageVolDownload. But i can't find the place where
virsh works with stdin/stdout (reading/writing full data to this I/O).

a questtion about Cronbach's alpha more than 1
Dear All,
I am a novice in R and am working on my thesis for
master's in Epidemiology & Biostatistics. While
calculating Cronbach's alpha for the SF-36
questionnaire, I got all 8 of them more than 1. Is it
possible to get alpha more than 1. If yes, please help
me understand it. I read about the negative alpha
value on your web postings. It does not answer my
question though.
Thank you.

[LLVMdev] Lost in the documentation
In http://llvm.org/docs/FAQ.html, when taking about writing a compiler
that uses LLVM (at least I think that's what the FAQ question is asking),
the FAQ recommends

You got some 'splaininn to do Lucy ;-)
We just had a security application vendor come in. We asked about Linux
support and he said that putting a security application on top of an
insecure OS was useless. When I asked what he meant by insecure he replied
that Linux does not have a true Auditing capability - as opposed to HP-UX &
Solaris which they do support. Can anyone explain to me what he was talking
about?
Thanks,
Marty
