Just wondering, is firefox-1.5.0.2-3.c4.centos from centospolus repo (x86_64 version) crashing for anybody else when opening /usr/share/doc/udev-039/writing_udev_rules/index.html file? It sure makes firefox crash every time for me. -- See Ya' later, alligator! http://www.8-P.ca/

umount'ing a /media/disk... as a user
Hello! Currently, whenever I attempt to umount /media/disk (or -1, etc), I either have to be user or have to have given the account sudo privileges. Since these "disks" are usually just flash-memory sticks, I'd really rather have the permission to umount them be given to users. The /etc/mtab shows the /media filesystems, /etc/fstab does not. Thank you, Charles Campbell

USB to serial converters
Anyone have an idea as to how to automatically detect the USB number and create a sym link in the dosdevices directory. The problem is that I have several USB devices not used at the same time, and when the USB to serial adapter is connected, a /dev/ttyUSB? is assigned. To use this assignment under WINE, I need to automatically detect /dev/ttyUSB? and then create a sym link in

Module loading order during install
Is there a way in a kickstart install to affect the order in which modules get loaded? I want to load 3w-xxxx before 3w-9xxx so that my OS mirror drives take their proper place as sda and sdb, but centos-4 wants to load 3x-9xxx first, making my (unbootable) big arrays the first two drives. In this configuration, it seems that even trying to install grub to /dev/sdc fails. Ideas? Thanks.

forcing linux kernel 3 to recognize cdrom as hdX
Hello, I have a problem with older version of anaconda linux installer. I have upgraded kernel in my distro, but, when this anaconda boot with new 3.4.52 kernel, can NOT find cdrom. As far as I understand, this is because the new kernel recognize cd drive as srX, scdX instead of older hdX with 2.6.18. At the moment I can not upgrade anaconda and forced this kernel to recognize it as before. Are

Custom udev rules to override defaults?
I'm trying to work out how to set up a custom udev rule to override permissions on serial ports (/dev/ttyS* and /dev/ttyUSB*) on CentOS 5.3 The default rule, in /etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev.rules has the line: KERNEL=="tty[A-Z]*", NAME="%k", GROUP="uucp", MODE="0660" and I would like the mode to be 0666 Various docs on web say that you

UPS has no built-in monitor. [GishPuppy]
OS: Debian Wheezy Nut: 2.6.4-2.3 Installation method: Synaptic Device: CDP B-UPR505 Traces, debugs, etc.: Not available or irrelevant Description: Where I currently live (Honduras), buying a UPS with monitoring capability means spending at least twice as much as a "plain-Jane" model - usually even more than that. Thus, since I can't afford the ones with monitoring, all I have are
