DTrace vs truss
G''Day Folks,
I''ve finally typed up my classic DTrace demo, which I use to introduce
people to DTrace (I delivered this at SOSUG#1),
http://www.brendangregg.com/DTrace/dtracevstruss.html
Here I create a fault and show the difficulty in analysing it using
previous tools. Then I compare the impact of analysing the problem
using both DTrace and truss. DTrace wins (a lot!).

ARP daemon
I''m looking for a program that will replace the automatic ARP table
population by the Linux kernel. The daemon should fix the MAC <-> IP
entry from the IP of the first packet with that MAC received.
Is there anything like this?

"Rails 3 in Action" is due February 2010 (est.) http://www.manning.com/katz/

Would like to invest in Rails 3 :)

Having trouble extending a class from a Rails plugin
I have class in a plugin that I want to crack open and add some
functionality to for a particular application. So, I created a file by
the same name as the class in my app/models folder and added some
methods to the class, but, I can''t seem to get Rails (2.2.2) to pick-up
the extended definition.
I did find while trying to debug the problem that if I paste the
extended definition into,

redirecting whole subnet
Hi folks,
i''m looking for a method to route a whole static subnet to another static
subnet elsewhere on the internet.
I think this must work like this:
Packet going to original destination, packet destination is overridden with
new destination-ip, packet source is overridden with the original destination.
Otherwise the packets will be filtered by the spoofing-protection of the

Any ongoing effort to port /etc/rc.d/pf_boot, /etc/pf.boot.conf from NetBSD ?
Hi,
[I have added freebsd-security to recipient list as I consider
this issue a security risk]

pfSense HVM
Hi Everyone,
Does anybody have any experience using pfSense on Xen? I would most
probably have to use HVM...
My idea would be to use PCI-Passthrough to the pfsense DomU, and only
make the Dom0 accessable via the pfsense firewall
Thanks
Jonathan
