Problem adding Worstation
Hi !
I've got a server with Samba 3.5.3 with LDAP backend running on it.
When I want to add a workstation I've got a strange result
First there is the workstation LDAP account :

Can some files be invisible to some users?
This may or may not be relevant to Samba -- hiding files, permissions, etc.
I have half a dozen Windows XP video editing workstations all accessing the
same data on my Linux Box. Each video editing worstation ideally would like to
create it's own index of the video files in the shared directory. The video
editing program stores the index data in a file that it HAS to write to the same

Getent Not Working
...I did notice the following error in
the smbd.log file in /var/logs/samba/ But I'm not sure what the deal
is.
I updated GCC, Krb5 just in case with yum. I had no problem adding the
machine to the domain, I just can't use getent to pull a listing or
access the share from any of the domain worstations without having a
local account on the RH box.
In the past using RHFC4 and a Win2k3 domain I've had no problems. So
I'm just baffeled right now. Maybe I've overlooked something. Maybe
it's something with the 2K domain. Any help is appriciated. If more
info is needed, or I'm...

drive mapping
Hi !
We are running Digital Unix 4.0d with C2 security on our server with Samba
1.9. I have noticed that on some Windows NT workstations, I'm able to map a
drive to the root account of our server, enter the wrong password, and still
gain access. If anybody has any suggestions, I'd appreciate the help.

ldap machine attributes not filled correctly when join a domain

When a windows xp workstation join a domain, by windows gui parameters, ldap
machine attributes are not filled correctly:
- No attribute sambaprimarygroupsid (before, there was one terminated by 515)
- rid (of sambasid) is not equal a 2*uid+1000
If i create a user, rid (sambasid) equal a 2*uid + 1000 (and sambaprimarygrousid
terminated by 513)
All the others samba attributes are ok

VLAN issue

The environment we have is as follows,
Domain controller: samba 3.0.14a running Solaris 9/X86
Authentication: openldap 2.2.14
Clients: Windows XP with SP2
The issue I met:
If both clients and Samba server are on the same physical switch (also same subnet), the clients can join the domain and users can log into their domain accounts without any problem. However, if the clients

username map problem
Hi,
I am running version 1.9.18p8 on Solaris 2.6 connecting to NT 4.0 sp3.
When I am logged in as administrator I can't connect to any samba share.
My username map contains just "root = Administrator" and my smb.conf file
has the following entries:

Samba and Visual C++
I've just tried to install MS Visual C++ 6.0 on our Samba 2.0.5a
Linux Server. When I was asked for the installation directory I tried
to use a samba-share that was mounted on a network drive letter. Just
after this the setup programm refused the path as incorrect. Now the
question: Is it impossible to install the VC6 package server based?

Domain login across subnets

My envrionment is Samba 3.0.23d as a PDC, password backend is OpenLDAP 2.3.27,
running on SuSE 10.1; workstations are Windows XP SP2, all recent patches
applied. All machines are on the same Class B private IP network. Domain
logons function perfectly, performance is very nice. For security and performance
reasons we are looking at dividing the network into many VLANS, each with

Time sync not working with Windows 10
After our office upgraded to Windows 10, time sync stopped working with the Windows
workstations. This used to work fine with Windows 7 and still works with linux domain members
(although that's not surprising).
The Windows 10 workstations ended up operating off the CMOS clock. We didn't notice this for a long
time since the CMOS clock drift is slow, but after several months users started

C6: ssh X-forwarding does not work

I have C6 i386 with cr repo enabled;
problem is, I can't get x-forwarding to work, xorg-x11-auth rpm is
installed, have checked sshd config for
