Excessive Swap with MSVC++ and Wine
Prompted by Jonathan Grant's article I've been playing with running the MSVC++
command line tools under Wine. In particular I'm trying to compile and link a
large DLL - about 4M in size.
The problem is the amount of memory used by link.exe. At the moment, with 256M
of real memory and 1G of swap I quickly run out. Under Windows2000, on the
same machine, the link takes a long time

system sounds
Hello,
I am using 'Centos 7.8.2003 (Core)' and after an update, a week or two
ago, all system sounds seemed to have stopped working.
Sound in firefox still works, and also rhythmbox seems to play music
files, VLC player do too.
It seems that? just things like notifications etc are not woring
anymore. Also, the "test speakers" in the sound setup doesn't seem to

Username could not be found
Hello,
I've asked this question before, and somebody helped me after
sending my logs. I thank them very much. I've solved these problems but
I still can't join the domain. I cannot see any major problem in the
logs except the logging user cannot be found in the ldap DB but it's there.
To summarize the problem to first tmie readers; We have a windows

Fencing a Dell T110 II
I think I know the answer to this question based on all of the research
I've done, but figured I'd ask anyway.
I needed a couple of servers for an HA cluster, and our "order" guy here
ordered me a couple of Dell PowerEdge T110 II. I'd planned on using IPMI
to fence these things with, but later found out that this model is only
one of two PE servers Dell sells that has a

Ingress Shaping using IMQ
Hi Guys,
Here is a question that is probably of concern to many of us.
I am under pressure to provide some solution for ingress traffic
shaping. What my customer demands is to divide the downstream (ingress)
of an ADSL lines to two classes of traffic - important traffic and non
important downloads. He has a very reasonable requirement: he wants a
guarantee of at least 1000kbps at all times for

system sounds
been playing around a bit and noticed:
When I login as root, gnome,? all the system sounds seem to be working.
When I log in as a regelur user,? the system sounds do't.? So I guess it
must be a permissions issue somewhere that happened during/after the
last update?
any ideas?
thanks,
Ron

Spotlight
Hi all,
I have a setup that I'm trying to configure spotlight on samba to work with Apples OSX. In the samba wiki it says to use ./configure --enable-spotlight
However that function actually isn't in the current production samba version nor is it in the 4.2rc version so far as I can tell.
Id love some pointers as to how to get samba working with spotlight as the wiki document is either

I have a linux box woring as pdc. this machine is reachable as haydn.redcor.home
(or just haydn).
its domain name is ROTTI
then I have a suse box as a domain member. I could join it with
net join -U root%XXX -S haydn.redcor.home
now I would like to login into a shell with smbclient

Size of observations
Hi All
I had to assure the randomness of backgammon game's two dices.
I took 8,000,000 observations and found that one of the dices is not uniform
distributed.
I took 80,000,000 observations and found that the dice is uniform
distributed.
In both tests I used Pearson Chi Square test.
My questions:
1. How many observations should I take?
2. How much the 80,000,000

I''m just about ready to release kermit, which will be 0.22.1. I''m
