Out of the woodwork
Greetings Everyone,
I finally got around to downloading and installing CentOS 3.1. Performed
flawlessly :)
Any of my whitebox friends still around here?
I've been extremely busy with work as of late....I'm still considering getting
involved with CentOS.

Is it time to re-factor yet :^)
Or how to avoid the whirlwind.
Greetings everyone.
I observe the coding of lighdm is well under way and I'm thinking the
pressure to meet the releases of 11.11 is probably going to build without
bounds.
Is there time now to consider the inclusion of some of the more offbeat use
cases?
1: Headless(no monitor, keyboard, or monitor)
2: True headless(no video card) but Xvfb.
3: No X but only

Recent TeX changes and R/package manuals
As some of you will be aware, TeXLive 2009 was released last month
having blocked updates on earlier versions since May. This has lead
to a flood of updates of LaTeX packages, as a result of which the
PDF manuals of R 2.10.0 and earlier will no longer build, for two
separate reasons.
For MiKTeX users: at least version 2.8 (the current one) has the same
updates (a week or so later) and has

Multiple Internet Connection Issue
Up here in British Columbia, Canada the major ISPs (telco and cable
company) have started to enforce caps on bandwidth consumption per
month. Other smaller ISPs have sprung out of the woodwork and offer
''unlimited'' consumption but the problem is that the quality of their
connection is noticeably inferior to that of the major ISPs.
In what way could I configure Linux

dovecot user
Any thoughts on this:
The primary use for "dovecot" user has been for login processes. But
people keep misunderstanding this and try to use dovecot for accessing
mails. For years I've been wondering about renaming this user to
something else like dovelogin, but it never really seemed practical.
So now with v2.0 there are a bunch of new processes, and for example
anvil and dict are

internet registering through wine
I have installed a CAD/CAM program call eCabinets (its a free program for woodworking and cabinet shops). When it starts, its asks for its registration code which I have. It then tries to open the default internet connections to register but eventually times out. By the looks of things, it its acting like a firewall is blocking it. I do not have a wirewall installed yet. I am runnin...

Getting Megaraid Software Manager Installed On CentOS 7
Well I'm pleased that my raid card post brought all the enthusiasts out
of the woodwork. So who has installed LSI's MSM software under CentOS 7?
I've downloaded the linux-x64 package from:
http://www.lsi.com/products/raid-controllers/pages/megaraid-sas-9361-8i.aspx
Extracted the files and run "install.csh -a". This installs
vivaldiframeworkd under /etc/rc.d/init.d and

GFP_BUFFER change to GFP_NOFS is not nice to symlinks
Hello Andrew,
I fetched (CVS) ext3 latest changes (3 July 2001) which include
changing GFP_BUFFER to GFP_NOFS and now have random troubles with
symlink files on ext3 filesystems.
>From my experience over the last days with Linus's changes I find
that GFP_NOIO worked perfectly.
Below is Linus's response about bounce buffer change.
I am late to work, but this evening will try to

[LLVMdev] Future plans for GC in LLVM
Now that the statepoint changes have landed, I wanted to start a
discussion about what's next for GC support in LLVM. I'm going to
sketch out a strawman proposal, but I'm not set on any of this. I
mostly just want to draw interested parties out of the woodwork. :)
Overall Direction:
In the short term, my intent is to preserve the functionality of the
existing code, but migrate
