Out of the woodwork
Greetings Everyone, I finally got around to downloading and installing CentOS 3.1. Performed flawlessly :) Any of my whitebox friends still around here? I've been extremely busy with work as of late....I'm still considering getting involved with CentOS. -- Donavan Nelson donavan at whiteboxlinux.net http://whiteboxlinux.net

Is it time to re-factor yet :^)
...ore offbeat use cases? 1: Headless(no monitor, keyboard, or monitor) 2: True headless(no video card) but Xvfb. 3: No X but only XDMCP. 4: No Dbus. 5: No X until after login. I'm thinking they could actually help point out some ways to modularise and simplify. People are going to come out of the woodwork asking for these cases to work and at minimal overhead. https://blueprints.launchpad.net/lightdm is empty and I took me some time to find: http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/LightDM/Design -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Recent TeX changes and R/package manuals
...ollowing CRAN package manuals have been affected: distrMod, RCurl, RGtk2, SparseM, VIM, bit, ggplot2, operators, relations, spam, tensorA (and only distrMod fatally). Given the current pace of change (ca 100 updates/week on 'only' 2000 TL packages), more things may pop out of the woodwork. For the curious and cognescenti: (i) hyperref is having problems with markup in \section titles, which 'methods' and 'distrMod' had. I've added a warning to the R-exts manual. (ii) there have been intermittent problems with (LaTeX) special characters in indices. But (...

Multiple Internet Connection Issue
Up here in British Columbia, Canada the major ISPs (telco and cable company) have started to enforce caps on bandwidth consumption per month. Other smaller ISPs have sprung out of the woodwork and offer ''unlimited'' consumption but the problem is that the quality of their connection is noticeably inferior to that of the major ISPs. In what way could I configure Linux (I''m running FC3) so that it would: 1. utilize both connections to get maximum speed (until th...

dovecot user
Any thoughts on this: The primary use for "dovecot" user has been for login processes. But people keep misunderstanding this and try to use dovecot for accessing mails. For years I've been wondering about renaming this user to something else like dovelogin, but it never really seemed practical. So now with v2.0 there are a bunch of new processes, and for example anvil and dict are

I think this is going to be a hard sell at this stage, I'm guessing users will crawl out of the woodwork, I'm sure with 2 hours after I'm able to access the office, I can boot the 865 AGP box with an rv350 in it on a modern distro. Maybe we can find some way to compartmentalise AGP further? Dave.

internet registering through wine
I have installed a CAD/CAM program call eCabinets (its a free program for woodworking and cabinet shops). When it starts, its asks for its registration code which I have. It then tries to open the default internet connections to register but eventually times out. By the looks of things, it its acting like a firewall is blocking it. I do not have a wirewall installed yet. I am run...

Getting Megaraid Software Manager Installed On CentOS 7
Well I'm pleased that my raid card post brought all the enthusiasts out of the woodwork. So who has installed LSI's MSM software under CentOS 7? I've downloaded the linux-x64 package from: http://www.lsi.com/products/raid-controllers/pages/megaraid-sas-9361-8i.aspx Extracted the files and run "install.csh -a". This installs vivaldiframeworkd under /etc/rc.d/init....

[LLVMdev] Future plans for GC in LLVM
Now that the statepoint changes have landed, I wanted to start a discussion about what's next for GC support in LLVM. I'm going to sketch out a strawman proposal, but I'm not set on any of this. I mostly just want to draw interested parties out of the woodwork. :) Overall Direction: In the short term, my intent is to preserve the functionality of the existing code, but migrate towards a position where the gcroot specific pieces are optional and well separated. I also plan to start updating the documentation to reflect a separation between the gener...
