Samba experts, Ok, we are having so many problems getting ldap to work, we decided to start over with our compile. We are compiling Samba --with-ldap on our AIX 5.1 system which uses gcc. I have a patch that enables "user password timeout" for 2.2.2. It works only for WinNT, Win2000 (tested and Samba on AIX and Linux) and I think with WinXP. It does not work with Win9x. We have set option "password never expires" for a user with "pdbedit -u username -c "[X]"". The user must not change his password, but gets a message, that "Password expires today. Do you want to change". This is confusing. regards Mathias Wohlfarth

same results with our AIX 4.3.3. It seems the samba redirection of stdout and stdin (which seems to work with most unix platforms) does not work with AIX. I detected similar problems with redirection from java. I have created a patch for samba 2.2.2 to directly change the AIX password (using AIX-routines getuserpw and setuserpw). When the administrator has reset the password for a user with smbpasswd, our users must be forced to change the password. We have tried with pdbedit -P "user must logon to change password -C 1", but nothing happens. The user can logon with the password given from the administrator and is not forced to change it. Got the same problem with the account Administrator. I have created Administrator on unix with group ntadmin. The user belong to group ntuser and always have problems to access installed software. All installed Files are created with owner Administrator:ntadmin. After changing the owner of all installed files to Administrator:ntuser the problems are gone. I will change the primary group of
