Difference in gnome between centos <> fedora
Hello, I've on my home PC CentOS 6 and Fedora 13 on different disks. When I log on the gnome enviroment at Fedora knows exactly which programm was started at which desktop (for example: thunderbird on desktop 1, firefox on desktop 2, nautilus on desktop 3, ..). The same procedure on Centos takes all programs on the first desktop, so I must arrange the programs on the right desktop.

Devilspie or wmctrl for CentOS 6
I am not sure they provide the same features. I do use wmctrl with some key shortcuts to move windows between my 2 monitors. -- Sent from the Delta quadrant using Borg technology! Applications on different deskops at startup
Hi, I've just converted my laptop to Centos 6 from Fedora ( gnome 3 made the latest fedora unusable ) and I have one problem. I have several desktops with applications running on them, mainly terminals. At login all the terminals start on desktop 1. How do I get them to start on the desktop they were running on at logoff. That's how it worked on Fedora 13/14 so it must be popssible

Window listing on different workspaces
...th respect to their current workspace. The problem seems to be that Compiz does not differentiate between workspaces as other (EWMH compliant?) window managers do. I'm not even sure whether this is a bug or a design decision. Let me explain this with an example: Running Compiz gives me this: $ wmctrl -l 0x02a00001 0 N/A N/A 0x02a00002 0 N/A launcher 0x01a00005 0 max-station Kontaktliste [...] But I think it should rather be like this: $ wmctrl -l 0x02a00001 0 N/A N/A 0x02a00002 0 N/A launcher 0x01a00005 1 max-station Kontaktliste [...] So. Is there any wa...

windows opening off screen

The app has already failed, and it's just a frozen window. Any ideas? Thanks

Program loses focus
...r the upgraded version, when I am using the program, for no reason at all (it seems to be random) I can't find it on the panel or when i try to use ALT+TAB. However, when I check the System Monitor it is still running. Someone mentioned using the following command to gain access to it: Code: wmctrl -R NoteTab This did get me back to the program but the program was still not listed on the panel with the other programs nor could I switch back to it from another program using ALT+TAB. (Strangely, this software does seem to run just fine for some other people under the new Wine version but not...

Extracting the window (titlebar) name from a bash script?
Surely there' s a way to obtain the "window name" -which appears on the Window Manager' s Titlebar- for running processes, right?. Well, I can't find it... I mean, the names that appear below each icon when you alt-tab to switch an app to the foreground. Is there a simple way to obtain that data along with matching PIDs, from a Bash script? any built-in tools that provide
