Dear R wizes,
I have a data.frame of species abundances with column names consisting
of 4 letter codes then an underscore and a number like this:
abco_1, abco_2, abco_3, psm_1, psme_2, psme_3, etc.
I would like to get an identifier for all the abco, and psme and other

AD DC DNS question
OS = Ubuntu 18.04 in an LXD container
Samba 4.11.x and up
Is there a way to have DNS resolution on the server that can coexist with
the samba ad dc internal DNS server? The way that I have it set up,
whenever samba is not running, then I can't use any web resources b/c
everything goes through the samba internal DNS. So I can't do system
updates and upgrades unless samba is running.

Samba DNS fails when queried with nslookup commands
Hi Rowland,
Thats not the point here, if this is a AD-DC or not.. ;-)
I'll explain.
This is about, how DNS requests are done on the system and accepted by the "dns service"
You can install unlimited DNS servers on the AD-DC and chain them, but wize..
No offcourse not. :-) Turning off systemd-resolved is probably a good idea, yes, it is.
But it does not harm if its on as long

exercising pam_cracklib from the command line
CentOS-6.6
Is there any command line program that determines and reports what
pam_cracklib.so returns for a given password; subject to variation in the
command line options and values provided? For example, assuming a cli driver
program called cli_driver_pgm:
cli_driver_pgm pam_cracklib.so difok=8 minlen=14 dcredit=3 ucredit=3
lcredit=3 ocredit=3 minclass=2 maxrepeat=3 maxsequence=3

Thanks! OK so what's the plan for merging this?
Do patches at least build well enough that I can push them
upstream? Or do they have to go on

NT_STATUS_TOO_MANY_OPENED_FILES on AD DCs
Hello guys
Yesterday afternoon kerberos stopped working on both of our domain controllers.
Unfortunately, I did not have time to examine it thoroughly, I needed to have it up asap.
I know that RDP authentication took a few minutes, but it ended up being logged.
LDAP was normally working.
There were a lot of these messages in the logs:

GPOs not Working!
ok,
do the following.
set ignore systemacl to yes on sysvol and netlogon.
login as dom\administrator
computer manager, connect to dc.
share sysvol, goto share security, reset to defalts.
same for folder.
goto gpo manager,
klik on every gpo object, if one has wrong acl, you get a message to reset it, thats ok.
now never samba-tool sysvol reset
if you do, you might need to set share/file

GPOs not Working!
Hai,
Ok, for the sysvol.
I'll put all steps here again.
I suggest start with this one.
wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/thctlo/samba4/master/samba-check-set-sysvol.sh
This checks and set the rights to be known to be right. ( aka works great for me ) ;-)
Then follow these steps.
- login as dom\administrator.
- start computer manager, connect to dc.
- klik Shared Folders, Shares,

GPOs not Working!
hai Micha,
The why is explained here.
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/The_SYSTEM_Account
Which in the end has todo with SID_BOTH, one sid for a user and group, linux does not understand that correctly.
with : acl_xattr:ignore system acls = [yes|no]
When set to yes, a best effort mapping from/to the POSIX ACL layer will not be done by this module. The default is no, which means that Samba
