You could mount it read only, but you risk getting a kernel panic when the filesystem suddenly changes if fsck corrects something. I am not aware of any filesystem that can withstand a online fsck. I'm leaning towards using a Sipura adapter with an analog outdoor handset. I've noticed that certain binary files had been checked into cvs with the default expansion mode. For example *.png and *.bmp files.
