Beyond increasing the Gluster log level, what other sorts of things
should i be doing ? What sorts of logging have you done during your tests ?
Thanks !

puppet error on cron w/ "complex" timing
...minute at foo.pp:##
I agree that it''s an awkward minute line, but it doesn''t violate cron
rules at all. I''m just curious if this is normal, expected behaviour
from puppet, or if it''s a bug, or something else perhaps.
Thanks all.

rsync hanging at "generate_files phase=1"
...ion as necessary.
As a side-note, i've been using rsync as part of our backup strategy
for about half a year now, and this is the only problem i've
encountered since we've gone into production. I'd say that's a pretty
solid track record so far. :)

locks feature not loading ? (2.0.0rc1)
...wiki says :
"Typically you'll want to load this on the server side, just above the
POSIX storage translator."
Does it mean to say "below", or should we actually load the locks
feature before the posix translator, somehow ?
Thanks.

question about gluster 3.0.4 and gluster-fuse (latest) on 2 centos 5.4 servers
Hello,
I am running 2 servers with CentoS 5.4 32 bit with 1 GB memory and 2
Xeon 3,4 Ghz cpu's.
Both are server and client.
Gluster 3.0.4 source is used and the latest fuse from glusterfs.
I put the Qmail maildir on the gluster mount.
I notices that IMAP connections are really slow and see a lot of gluster
load whenever I receive a mail or send an email.
This is my glusterfsd.vol on both

1.3.10 compile failure on FC9 w/ Gluster-patched Fuse
...ar/tmp/rpm-tmp.63368 (%build)
-----------------------
Just for fun, i tried to build the 1.3.10 release on an FC8 machine
(with the normal FC8 fuse package, though i'm not sure that would make
a difference), and it compiled and built the RPMs cleanly.
Any ideas ?

group and user permissions issue.
I have browsed through loads of archive material and cant seem to find
anywhere where this exact issue has been posted.
am using samba 2.28 set up as an NT domain, there are no problems with
the general configuration. My issue is witb samba not following the
permissons I have set on files in a shared directory.
Purpose: set up a directory for students and teachers where students can
leave files and only edit their own files, teachers can edit all files.
unix permissions for files are like this

best way to ensure (yum) package repository freshness ?
...ine is
too stale, and thus isn''t aware of the existence of the new package.
My question is this : what have other Puppet admins done in order to
ensure that a target machine has the freshest local dbcache before
attempting to install a package ?
Thank you.

Puppet system deployment hanging ..
We have successfully installed puppet on a CentOS Server, but I am
battling with a deployment.
It has to do with grid software. The repository gets created, then
begins installation.
The problem is that it just hangs - no errors, no network activity. I
can see puppet is running, but nothing it being updated.
Any pointers ?

large number of small files to move
Hello,
I have a large migration of a single system going from windows to
linux. We are moving 9 TB and 60 million files. I am planning on
using rsync to move this data. Are there any special considerations I
should have in mind when moving this much data and more importantly,
this many small files?
I am mounting the volumes out of fstab like this:
//dss01/f$ /mnt/dss01/f cifs

Can a rsync server use MySQL for authentication
Hi folks,
I'm considering setting up a commercial backup service. I've already got
ProFTPd set up to do secure FTP with remote users authenticating via a MySQL
lookup.
What I'd like to know is if I can do the same thing with rsync?
Specifically, can I run rsync as a daemon that permits secure connections and
encrypted transfers from remote users using the same MySQL

delete of stat xattr failed
...one of a number of items.
Both machines are running "rsync version 3.0.2 protocol version 30".
It's not a critical error, since the files are still transferred, but
the sheer volume of these messages makes spotting /actual/ errors
tedious.
Any ideas ?

Backing up from fat32 to ext3
Hi,
I have a problem backing up my music collection, that is stored on a
fat32 formated hard drive to my ext3 formated backup drive (ext3 to ext3
works like a charm :) ).
The problem is, that rsync always transfers all of the files and not
only the one that were changed/added.
I know of the limitations fat32 has but I can't find the correct options
to run the backup.
Thanks

glm specification where response is a 2col matrix
Hi,
when I apply a glm() model in two ways,
first with the response in a two column matrix specification with
successes and failures
y <- matrix(c(
5, 1,
3, 3,
2, 2,
0, 4), ncol=2, byrow=TRUE)
X <- data.frame(x1 = factor(c(1,1,0,0)),
x2 = factor(c(0,1,0,1)))
glm(y ~ x1 + x2, data = X, family="binomial")
second with a model matrix that
