Wave of <elCheapo Wintel> Laptops.
Internet reports that I'm 1-of-many victims, failing to run linux on new/cheap laptops. Eg. quad-Atom; connex L1470. What is syslinux's recomended method to overcome <WinTel's UEFI lockout> using a USBbootStik ? Are wifi drivers: RTL8723BS for linux available yet ? ==TIA.

Syslinux should work fine with UEFI (it does for me), and if for some reason you can't disable secure boot, download the Linux Foundation UEFI pre-loader (to use it, rename syslinux' bootx64.efi to loader.efi, rename Foundation's preloa...

Adding Printer
We are a very small company and moved from WinTel environment to Linux. Killed the WinTel file/print server and implemented SAMBA om Red Hat 7.2. I have some users that need to print to a RICOH Aficio 4106 printer. When I go through the sequence to add printer ...... it appears to install, but the people cannot print. Can anyone walk me through...

Time Delay Estimation
...n some data structure that I might be able to use if I wanted to estimate the amount of delay between the near-end and far-end signals? I'd like to be able to do this in order to optimally align the signals before passing them to the canceller. There seem to be many milliseconds of latency in a Wintel audio subsystem and I would like to accurately compensate for that rather than just using a huge echo tail. I would guess that the adaptive filter must compute some good data that I could use as observations for a tracking algorithm. I would appreciate hearing about any suggestions you may have....

A chinese R-info page and a question
Dear R community, I wrote and someone else helped me type a 5-page R-info in Chinese, covering the most basic information on how to get and install and start using R on Wintel PC. This could serve those not fluent in/intimidated by English but want to start using R. (I met a lot of those in China) <http://www.ms.uky.edu/~mai/ZhongWen.htm> also a MSword version of the same (may print better). <http://www.ms.uky.edu/~mai/ZhongWen.doc> Now I have a ques...

New UEFI restrictions?
...inux.bin , isolinux.cfg , menu.c32...etc. to boot 64bit TinyCore. Now this newer laptop has: "Aptio Setup Utility...2018" which is completely different from the 2015 version. I fail to boot linux from any of my various syslinux/grub bootStiks. Has M$pook finally locked linux out of <WinTel> laptops? Or have readers here got a solution? =TIA crg.

Real-time JSpeex coding
Hi, Is real-time possible with the current java-based JSpeex for real-time full duplex voice communication? If yes, can you please also provide some details of the Wintel (Windows on Intel) specifications that you have used to achieve that, and perhaps the JSpeex encoding/decoding specs used? Thanks. Cheers, Jo Yew Everyone should have a big dream and live a meaningful life to its fullest. Life is as short as a passing evening -- so do your part for a happier...

what is rw0641sp.zip ?
Hi, everyone, I was downloading the rm0641b.zip etc. (thanks to Guido Masarotto and Brian Ripley) I noticed rw0641sp.zip there, which do not seem mentioned in the News file. My guess is that it is not a binary file? Is is a source patch file(?) for compiling on Wintel PC? how do I export nt2k policy to a file?
We migrated our entire domain over to a samba3 domain, now I would like to apply a few policies to the network. I've been reading a few migration papers, most mention about a .POL file which is created upon exporting policy keys on a wintel machine. Using gpedit I don't see an export option. What tool should I use for this? greg

Samba & Tivoli Storage Mgr (TSM) Integration Query ???
All, Can anyone confirm that Samba/Solaris will integrate with TSM (Tivoli Storage Manager) when deployed into a Wintel client environment. ie. Solaris/Samba as a TSM client - we need to be sure that the ACL's will be maintained correctly via a TSM backup/restore (full or partial) Or confirm this does not work, which is not what we want to hear - but the truth will suffice. Many thanks, Graham.

Does anybody runs R on the hp ML 370 or ML570 servers?
Dear all. I am trying to buy a hp server to run R and to complete some other tasks with limited bugets. The r-project.org site recommended that R will run on hppa-hp-hpux. However this system is out of our buget and ML system from hp is much cheaper. Is there anybody running R on ML370 or ML 570 systems? If you can provide me with some other information related that will be appreciated.

Can USB:syslinux install another USBstik?
When a USBstiked-syslinux starts, it's the PC's firmare that's reading the USB ? But once the USBsyslinux takes over, has IT also got a USB driver? Since my MotherBoard & 2009 Slackware built USBstik syslinux booter were stolen I bought a <WinTel> laptop and USBextender to access my old IDE & SATA disks. With WinTel's new arrangement of not allowing the tail of the sda to be free for linux installation: I've only installed linux to some USBstiks. The attempted reconstruction of the stolen original Slackware BootStik seems v...

Ogg streaming on low bandwidth
...this bitrate, mono with an audio bandwidth less than 5KHz. I have done some testing (not streaming though) listening to 8Kbps MP3 - it's pretty bad, but sufferable. Is this possible? Can anyone direct me to some tools that I can test this with? (ie: a server app & a client) I am running Wintel. PS: I can't use speech codecs (such as speex) because of the content, it's not speech (obviously - otherwise I would go that way!)
