CIFS in fstab
Hi, folks,
I have a difficulty using a cifs connection...
O/S: Mandrake 10.0, updated kernel, at 2.6.8.1-12mdk, running Samba 3.0.7
packages.
I'm trying to mount, via CIFS a share on a Windows 2003 server. I have no
control over the use of smb signing, so I need to use cifs, not smbfs (the
organisation as a whole has over 25000 users, using numerous servers, almost
exclusively Microsoft

Smba with Amanda backup --- permissions
Hi,
I am trying to create a Samba share on /media/winshare with the owner as
amandabackup instead of root. But as soon as I mount the Samba share on to
the mount point, the permissions for the owner get reverted back to root
instead of amandabackup.
Attaching a snapshot of how it looks like.

SAMBA update appears to have breoken WinShare connectivity
We have a very old MS-Windows domain running on a Win2K advanced server.
After the most recent update to Samba it appears that we can no longer connect
to shares on that system from our CentOS-6.4 workstations. Is this a known
problem or configuration issue that we need to address through local
modifications or do we have to roll back to the older version to regain
connectivity?

Samba authentication problem
On a small home network, I am trying to move from simple share based security =
to user to openldap.
I have simple share working fine, as long as no authentication is occuring. =
Obviously not at all secure!
The two immediate problems are
when I go to security=3Duser on the NT authentication side I get:
[Alan@Webby Alan]$ smbclient //webby/WinShare -U Alan

Access denied
Hello,
Samba 1.9.16p11 on Sun OS 5.6
For a NT4 Server SP4, I can not access to the samba server. When I look
at the log.MachineName file, I see the error "password server not
avalaible".
I must say that it is working fine with an NT4 SP4 server on the same
domain with the same user account.
I have change the registry to authorize non-encrypted password.
......
Thanks.

Undefined symbol when trying to dyn.load a shared object
I hope that someone reading this list can offer some suggestions on how I can incorporate external C libraries in C functions that I want to call from R. I have gone through all of the documentation, help files and mailing list archives and have not been able to find a satisfactory solution.
I have constructed a simple example of the problem, since my "real" program is much more

Windows Share - FSTAB - CentOS 5
//winserver/winshare /linuxdir smbfs
username=username,password=password, this line doesn't work for me in
fstab in CentOS 5 to mount a Windows share, it works in other versions
of RH. Any Ideas?
Will using Windows NFS server/client (some reading required) work better
than Samba?

How can $VARIABLES be used inside smbclient -c'xyz' command strings?
Hi,
being a total newbie in shellscripting and similar stuff, I
am suffering from a brain freeze around the following problem:
* I need to print (or transfer otherwise) to a WinNT box;
* the files are send from inside a shellscript;
* the script gets the filename on the commandline when started;
* so the only knows it works on "$1";
* the problem is, that the original filename needs to

Using samba on two domains
Hello all,
We've been using samba version 3.0.4 on RH9 with success for quite a while now for shares on our domain (DOM1). Since this machine will have to be available in the near future in another domain (DOM2) as a webserver, and limited fileserver, another network interface has been added for the NIC.
When browsing the shares from a WIN98SE computer in DOM2, we are able to see the

Inexistant file displayed by samba
Hello,
Running 3.2.0, and in one of my share, a file named TABAFK~V
appeared, but is not present on the underlying filesystem.
The file can't be removed from a windows client (even a member of
domain admins).
Not that it is distrubing, but you know...

HELP: Permissions in Samba 3.0.2
We are having difficulty setting permissions with Samba 3.0.2. Whenever we
use the DOS attrib +r command to make a file read only (or through the file
properties) we get an "Access Denied" error for all users except the owner.
This happens even though we've setup our smb.conf to allow Administrator
root access (smb.conf below), and the file is rwxrwxrwx.
Here is our smb.conf file:

Help! Problem with NT PDC on 3.0.14a
Hello,
We are trying to add a 2nd samba server to our domain. We are using an NT
4.0 PDC and connecting to the PDC using winbind. Our network is relatively
small - 25 computers. We have no Active Directory servers, no WINS servers,
and the existing samba server running 3.0.11 has been running for 18 months
with no issues.
We are completely stuck trying to add a second server. We've
