Bad File Descriptor | Permission Denied
Hello everyone! I'm having strange errors backuping with rsync. I backup over a samba share mounted using mount_smbfs on freebsd. The first backup is no problem, no errors just all data transferred (Speedup 1.00). The second backup seems more problematic here is the error: rsync: failed to set times on "/mnt/nas/Mercredi/data": Bad file descriptor (9) rsync: failed to set

security = domain and Mac OS X
I've set up Samba on Mac OS X to do pass through authentication to the nt domain in AD several times now. No big deal, it usually just works. Now, however, it doesn't appear to be working. Note the relevant part of the transaction below (loglevel 4). Steps to replicate: a) Add pre-Win2K account with AD Users and computers b) sudo smbpasswd -j EXAMPLE -r WINSERVER -U

CIFS in fstab
Hi, folks, I have a difficulty using a cifs connection... O/S: Mandrake 10.0, updated kernel, at 2.6.8.1-12mdk, running Samba 3.0.7 packages. I'm trying to mount, via CIFS a share on a Windows 2003 server. I have no control over the use of smb signing, so I need to use cifs, not smbfs (the organisation as a whole has over 25000 users, using numerous servers, almost exclusively Microsoft

Authenticating Samba 3.4.2 vs WinServer 2008R2
Hello! I'm having an odd issue between Samba and Win2k8R2. We updated one of our domain controllers to 2k8R2, and as such are working in a 2003-level AD environment. If I force the 'password server' to the 2003 DC, then everything works fine, only working against the 2008 box has issues. I'm on a CentOS 5.3 box, and as part of the troubleshooting process moved up to 3.4.2 from

Supported version of Samba for commercial use.
Dear Sirs. We have csv reports that are created on a unix server automatically via a cron job. We are looking at putting these reports in a shared area / work out a way of sharing a unix device to windows machine like mapping a network drive. The only product we have found that can possibly do this is samba. Because we are a large company ('BRITISH TELECOM') we really need a version of

mystified by interaction between krb5.conf, smb.conf, and winbindd
I am stumped here. I am a novice at using samba to do MS Active Directory stuff, but I have read everything I could find in the HOWTO collection and on the linux.samba cache of the list and am still stuck. A bit of background... I have set up a Windows 2003 server as a domain controller here and configured it to be the DNS for a ficticious domain for internal use only. The domain functional

Getting Owner of Files on Mounted Windows Share
Hello everyone, I have an obscure issue that I have been so far unable to find the answer to. I have successfully mounted a windows NTFS file share using samba via the following command: mount -t smbfs -o username=<USERNAME>,workgroup=<WORKGROUP> //winserver/winpath /mnt/win It mounts just fine but performing an ls -al command shows my user (or "root") as the owner of all

smbmount: mount() syscall gone bad ?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I have seen a weird problem in one of my clients. The reported that when issuing a smbmount command (both client and server are CentOS 4.4), it would take up to 30 second for the mount to complete. To make a long history short, by using strace and the source, I noticed smbmnt is first calling mount() using ascii options for *data. Then that would

Wine installation problem
Hi, I have just compiled and installed wine-20011004, and I have go the following problem when I start Wine: wine client error:0x806bb68: version mismatch 54/59. Your wineserver binary was not upgraded correctly, or you have an older one somewhere in your PATH. Or maybe the wrong wineserver is still running? I have build and install it with wineinstall. I have remove the previous version. Any

net use z: \\sambapdc\share1 <file:///\\sambapdc\share1> However I still get prompted for a user name and password. I don't seem to have a way to force the "net" command to connect anonymously. If I can force an anonymous connection from Windows, then I should be OK. (Again, this share does not contain information that needs much protection.) Thanks

Open sessions on the server
Gentlemen, Samba 4, which I view open server sessions? The sessions that I mean, are the sessions of all machines and users logged in AD. In Winserver, I see the sessions through the Computer Management console / Shared Folders / Sessions. When I try to view the sessions of the Samba server via a PC with RSAT installed, it shows few results. (3 to 6 results). Thank you!

3.6.15/fix for BUG 9817 breaks our cross-domain support
Hi, We discovered that the the patch for BUG 9817 (https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9817) which was first included into Samba 3.6.15 breaks our cross-domain setup: AD DC Domain "AD" [WinServer 2003 R2] AD DC Domain "D" [WinServer 2008 R2] client_1 (domain member in AD, WinServer 2003 R2) samba_srv (domain member in D,

Problems using security=server for windows 2003 client.
I searched around but didn't find an answer to my question, hopefully someone here knows how to fix this problem. The issue is actually pretty simple, if I use "security = user" and add a user with smbpasswd then I can connect to the share from windows 2003 server. However, if I set "security = server" then define the same windows 2003 server as the password server then I

Windows Server DHCP + UEFI recipe
I've found a way to support PXE booting both UEFI and BIOS architectures with Windows Server DHCP. This method uses a feature introduced in WinServer 2012: DHCP policies. First, in the the DHCP console, at the IPv4 root of the server, create a vendor class named PXEClient (UEFI x64) with the following value: PXEClient:Arch:00007 Then create your configuration for your BIOS clients in your
