Problem with smbclient
Hi!
I have a problem with smbclient and the option -M.
I'd like to send Winpop Messages to my Windows Clients.
I have noticed that command only works with short hostnames.
I have for example a win95test1.no.domain host. Name resolution is done
by
bind 8 on the samba box.
if I do
echo "Test PopupMessage" |smbclient -M win95test1
it works. (The winpopup.exe progr...

sharing port with nmdb
...he residence, we have a RJ25 plug. We just need a
network card and a computer to go on this network. As you can expected,
our network is a jungle with computers running W95 first generation, W95
OSR 2.x, W98, WT workstation and server, W2ky beta, Linux, BeOS and
MacOS (about 350 people).
And we use Winpopup and compatible to join each other.
Since two years now, I was looking inside samba to understand how things
work (and don't work !!). Once I understood well the netbios and smb
protocol, I started to program a winpop server to handle messages send

Can anyone suggest a solution?
Thankyou for taking the time to read this ...
We have large PC userbase and a not-so-large (but equally loud) Unix
user base. We have a requirement to "PopUp" information windows on ALL
our user's screens with an absolute minimum of manual intervention (ie
type the message once and then forget it).
We can manage the Unix X servers but can't seem to find a UNIX
application that

moron you forgot that. . .") on the following horrible dirty kludge to make
a (nearly, with any luck) un-hackable set of shares available to specific
users on the internet.
On the Server, initially all packets bound for port 139 are rejected as the
default policy.
The server is connected to the internet full

...nce I have used SWAT to set the password and enable the user, the
problem was solved. Do you also happen to know why my workstation is still not
appearing in networkneighbourhood? Connections are all fine now, but it just
won't appear in there. Also, I am using the following command to handle
winpopups, is it correct?
message command = /bin/csh -c 'xedit %s; rm %s' &
No messages was displayed on the workstation even though winpopup reports that
the message has been sent successfully.
One last question : Some remote printers are connected to my win98 PC, can I
