Problems with Trust Relationship
Hey All,
I'm having problems with a Trust relationship between our Win 2002 PDC and our Samba PDC. Here are the details:
(names have been changed to protect the innocent...!)
Win 2002 PDC: WINPDC, IP 1.2.3.4
Client in Windows Domain: CLIENT
Samba PDC in Domain TEST: SMBPDC
I use Start -> Run -> \\SMBPDC on a machine in our Windows 2000 Domain and got an error saying "\\SMBPDC, A device attached to the system is not
functioning."
The following is a debug level 3 output fr...

net getlocalsid returns hostname as domain && net rpc vampire fails
OS : Suse 9.2 up to date with Samba 3 and openldap
Goal :I want to migrate from Windows NT to samba 3.
WINPDC : name of the Windows NT PDC
LINBDC : name of the Linux BDC
WINNTDOMAIN : name of the domain on WINPDC
I set up smb.conf to act as a BDC, openldap is running well with a
structure ready (I used smbldap-populate from smbldaptools)
I used "net setlocalsid" to set my LINBDC SID to the WIN...

Samba trusts, mapping issue, and pam crap domain
...DC is
called "PDC."
I have also set up a trust with an Windows domain- lets call it
WINDOMAIN- (the PDC for the Windows domain is Win 2003 but is in mixed mode
for backwards compat.) The SAMBA domain trusts the WINDOWS domain, not not
vice versa. Assume the Windows PDC is called "WINPDC."
I have winbind enabled. Idmap entries are stored in the backend.
On the Windows domain, I have a login script which maps R: to
\\PDC\dept\common. The "dept" share does not explicitly set or deny any
users. The "common" directory has unix perms of "rwxrwxr-t.&qu...

Samba4 DC with 2003 domain in w2k foresta level
hi all,
i've added a samba4 additional dc to my domain.
all provision was ok with samba-tool domain join xx.mydomain.com DC
-Uadministrator --realm=xx.mydomain.com command and i can replicate
correctly from winpdc to sambadc.
i have a couple of questions:
1) with adsedit i see objectversion 47 for my winpdc.mydom.com (is w2k3)
which means 2008R2 (correct?)
2) on the samba4 side if i test samba-tool domain level show i have an
error Could not retrieve the actual domain, forest level and/or lowest DC
function...

Ok, until here everything it's apparently everything is worked fine.
I do:
1) net rpc getsid -S WINPDC -U Administrator
2) net rpc join -S WINPDC -U Administrator
Here it's the problem itself: net rpc vampire -S WINPDC -U Administrator
[...] it begins to suck account and group information from windows pdc
and after vampire ends, if i do a net groupmap list here is:

Need help taking over my Windoze Domain
...nd log into it.
Now I want to shut down my WindowsPDC, change my NetBios and workgroup name on my Samba server, and have it take over without anybody knowing it.
I tried this last night, but it didn't work as planned. I know I need to run 'smbpasswd -S' to get the Domain SID from the WinPDC. But what else do I need to do... (see Question 3)
Question 1) Are the smbldap-tools (smbldap-migrate-accounts.pl) capable of importing machine$ SIDs proprely. Also, why do I have to run smbpasswd <username> even though I have an entry in objectClass=SambaAccount? Is it a correct conclus...

Samba4 PDC to Samba4 DC works great, Win2003 PDC to Samba4 DC not so great
...hen I add a Samba 4.0.7 or 4.1RC1 DC to an existing Win2003 PDC with
Forest level of 2003, Forest and Domain DNS repl is only from PDC to DC,
never in the other direction. I've followed just about every thread on
this topic but never with any success. This has to work in order to
demote the WinPDC and use Samba as the only DCs in the domain.
Has anyone successfully done this? Should this work? If not, is there
another way to do this? I've even looked at LDIFDE as a possibility but
I don't think that'll do it.
Any help/advice greatly appreciated.
Thanx,
Garth
