samba 3.5.7 tries to authenticate on ADS by machine name, not username
...biosname\share I get "extended error" from XP.
Now the various suggestions from the web are that when you log in
using the IP it authenticates using ntlmssp but using the name it
authenticates using kerberos. So just to make sure, I'll check
kerberos auth:
/etc/samba wbinfo -K geoff.winkless
Enter geoff.winkless's password:
plaintext kerberos password authentication for [geoff.winkless]
succeeded (requesting cctype: FILE)
credentials were put in: FILE:/tmp/krb5cc_0
Kerberos seems fine...
log.smbd suggests that the system is trying to authenticate with the
client machine name as t...

upgraded samba server causes winXP integrated authentication to fail
...server to RHEL5.3, on which I installed
Samba 3.5.7 (and recently 3.5.8) RPM packages from sernet.
I now cannot authenticate from my windows client using the (locally
logged in) domain user, I have to explicitly state the username and
map the drive using
net use \\guava\share /user:XXXX\geoff.winkless
Logs are below. Servername is guava, client machine is XXXX-001119
If I rename the server the problem disappears, suggesting that there's
a cache somewhere that gives my XP client the wrong information about
the server.
I've tried using nbtstat -R to clear the local cache on the XP box...

samba ADS-based authentication fails with NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER but wbinfo works
Once again, I forgot to change the "To:" line so apologies to Andrew,
who will have this twice....
Hi Andrew, thanks for the response.
(I've modified the subject line because I just realised I
mis-remembered the error message when I typed the subject line
before...)
I was running 3.0.33 on both boxes with identical conf files; it
wasn't working then, so I updated to 3.5 in

EFI 64bit and Kernel 32 bit [redux]
Hi
Apologies for referring back to an old thread, but in this
conversation https://www.syslinux.org/archives/2018-October/026198.html
Thomas and Ady seemed to suggest that booting 32-bit linux from 64-bit
EFI was possible with the patched 6.04-pre version of syslinux that
Debian are using.
When I try this, all I get is
Loading ../../bzImage...ok
Loading ../../imgpt4.gz...ok
and then nothing.
