Wini MIDI on Ubuntu
Hello all,
I'm trying to run a synth editor (SY editor) under Wine on Ubuntu Gutsy.
The editor runs fine it seems but I can't get MIDI in out to work, the editor gives me an error midi device not properly configured.
I'm using the Edirol UM-2ex, and I selected ALSA under wine configuration - sound, and I can see UM2 for both MIDI in and out in the configuration. I also see UM2 for

I tried configuring conf and wini.ini files as dicussed in
www.deesconsulting.com/howtos/wine-kprinter.txt with no luck.
I also tried placing the ppd file in the working directory from the Quickbooks
executable as well as in other areas, but get the same errors noted above.
Thanks for any ideas.

Re: Capabilities and the sticky-bit...
...ly holds. Using the execcap
program, you do indeed prevent the root-user from getting around the
sticky bit... (This is what you observe happenning when, as 'root', you
fail to delete the file in your home directory.)
The reason root is still able to delete the /tmp/ file and not the
/home/wini/ file is because root owns the /tmp/ directory. Take a look
at the function check_sticky() in linux/fs/namei.c. You'll see that
there is a check to see if the owner of the directory is the user trying
to do the deed. If so, the sys_unlink() succeeds.
For the security paranoid: all system files...

Cross Subnet Browsing.
hi,
I need a hand setting up cross subnet browsing. Does anyone have some
good news group postings, or a HOWTO?
I have 2 samba servers, and 2 subnets. Each servers sits on it's own
domain/workgroup. I think this should be much simpler than it is,
and perhaps I am just missing one or two settings.
Of the 2 servers: A, B I would like 'A' to do any serving or

Starcraft Patch
I've done some work getting the patches from
http://starcraft-wine.sourceforge.net/ working with CVS wine. Using the
patch I'm including, starcraft works perfectly on my machine, run as
root using DGA on a 640x480 XF86 layout.
In particular the changes to event.c enable the mouse and keyboard with
DGA. The changes to input.c make the mouse acceleration work the same
in all directions.
