Linux/Samba for the first time
I'm setting up a linux mashine with samba for filesharing to windowsclients. I use samba 3 and Linux rh9 and swat. We are just a small group of trusted people. I need to create a folder with rights for any windowsuser in the workgroup to: -connect to and add subfolders and files. -read all the subfolders and files. -change in subfolders and files. Basicly we will store the economysystem, filemaker pro server and officefiles. Finally we will back it up to a tape drive or to another media. Is there no easy way t...

flood of (auth in progress) connections from unresponsive windows client crashing samba
...o not. This has been setup such that the users connect to samba as the windows username (ex. PRODUCTION+user1) for an authroized group (PRODUCTION+group1), but the files and permissions on the linux samba server are created and managed with the appropriate uid/gids. Example: linuxuser=PRODUCTION+windowsuser G-234=PRODUCTION+directorygroup I do not believe we are using sssd, but are using winbind. Its quite possible we don't have this setup optimally, but this setup does work as needed, outside of these occasional crash/unresponsive states. Thanks! David W.

joined to ads, mapped permissions
I have joined samba to a 2003 active directory server. If a samba shared dir is owned by root, how does active directory manage it? more specifically, how are the permissions mapped? administrator to root? i have seen reference to a parameter in smb.conf to "username map", but i don't see reference to it in either of the John Terpstra Samba books so that can't be the bridge

SerNet - Samba 4.3 and ssh password logins
...group and at least 1 in the sshwindows group. Make sure the sshwindows group have a GID. And make sure the windows user loggin in in ssh als have a UID. AND for both, UID 1000+ ( which is in debian the default PAM setting ) . This is base on a "MEMBER" server. If you do : getent windowsuser You get uid gid homedir and shell ? and these are ok to login? If yes, is the home dir local on the server or shared ? If shares and IF kerberos base nfsv4 then you need some more. But first above, else im lots in al mails.. Greetz, Louis > -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- > V...

I got an output. But I changed it. But still the same problem. But is there a place with more info about this. From my understanding, am I linking windows rights with the unix rights. But I don?t really understand what I am doing. I just copy the winbind settings, and don?t really bother. But maybe when I understand what I am doing, I can fix the problem myself. Btw the problem is, to my

Share & Domain Level Authentication Required From Sam e Server
Create a Unix user account for that person. Add them to /etc/samba/smbusers (unixuser=windowsuser) This is how I get non-domain users printing to my samba printers. File access should work too, but you may have to tweak the permissions for them. Winbind x LDAP x Kerberos
Hi people, What are the pros and cons of Winbind, LDAP and Kerberos in a Samba 3.0.2 plus Active Directory environment ? What could be the best design for this scenario ? Samba HOME Share
OK, the problem I am having here is that I have setup winbind, and Kerberos on my Red Hat Linux box to talk to the AD server for user authentication and everything works fine, I can even telnet into the Linux box using the AD account and password and so forth. But when it comes time for me connect to the Linux box from Windows workstation it gives me permission denied msg. I have created a local

Migration to samba4 ad and sync to openldap.
I managed to do migration using "classicupgrade". Doing tests with debian buster 2:4.9.4+dfsg-4. For the moment using samba internal dns and sub-domain of ad.advocap.org. Had issue forwarding dns if I used main domain. When it comes to real production will use bind that I understand better but don't want to mess with my other dns servers now. Had a w10 box join samba4 ad

CVS over SSH
Hi there I'm running a samba cvs server in a windows domain with a W2K PDC. I want to authenticate windows users through ssh. I'm able to login with a windows user to the server on the server himself but when I want to login via a windows client It doesn't work. The connection is refused. Could it be something mis configured in my ssh pam module. This is my pam ssh module PAM

flood of (auth in progress) connections from unresponsive windows client crashing samba
We have been experiencing a debilitating 'bug' in samba where something is causing a flood of the messages seen below in smbstatus and the network drives ( in our case N: ) on all clients become unresponsive. In fact, the entire client becomes unresponsive, essentially making them unusable until samba is restarted. We first saw this and connected it to the following open bug in samba

SerNet - Samba 4.3 and ssh password logins
Hi everyone, I have a SerNet-Samba 4.3.6-10 AD which works fine. Now I try to implement a fileserver. It is a server with a lot of (old)-users, which have an Unix-Account. On this server are also users who should can login from the Internet over ssh. But now I'm running in trouble with the security of my fileserver. When I would install samba 4.3.6 on it and activate sernet-samba-client
