pdbedit -P 'maximum password age' -C 0 should == never expire?
...d expired
immediately after I did a smbpasswd. Shouldn't setting it to 0 mean
the password will never expire? Or are there any other way to set
password to never expire?
Here is the microsoft's interpretation on 'maximum password age':
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/proddocs/entserver/501.asp
It said 0 = 'never expire'.

Access Based Enumeration
Microsoft has an add on for Windows 2003 SP1 that will do access based
enumeration.
This is great because of "out of sight, out of mind". If the user
doesn't have privilege to access the directory or file it doesn't show
up in the directory listing.

Any idea when samba will be able to do the same (if it can already do
it, just point me in the right direction).
Thanks,

authenticating IIS 6.0 against samba?
...ave a windows 2003 server joined to my domain. I'd like to have IIS
6.0 on the 2k3 server authenticating against samba so that windows
sharepoint services can be used. I've tried getting NTLM authentication
working following instructions at
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/WindowsServer2003/Library/IIS/7258232a-5e16-4a83-b76e-11e07c3f2615.mspx?mfr=true
but I'm not having hany luck. I'm still getting access denied errors
when trying to authenticate users in sharepoint services. Has any one
got this working, and if so, any tips?

mounting/connection to 2003 shares (members servers and domain controllers)
...breaks *DOS/LANMAN* clients to connecting to Windows 2003 and of
course versions of samba less than 3.0
I was finally able to map my samba 2.2.5 installation to windows 2003 AD
server by reviewing this technet article.
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/proddocs/standard/570.asp
after making those changes.. to force the security policies to update
immediately, run:
gpupdate
at an cmd prompt and you should be good to go.
What still doesn't work? View browse lists.... like smbclient -L melkor
I still get an access denied on the browse list...

experinental revision of the 'snow' package
A new version of the 'snow' package for parallel computing in R is
available at
http://www.stat.uiowa.edu/~luke/R/cluster/snow_0.3-3.tar.gz
This substantially revises the way in which worker processes are
started to allow snow to be used on Windows and Mac/Windows/Linux
combinations. I have successfully used the SOCK version on a

Restricting to a subset of the domain controllers on a site
Had a situation where users could not map drives from Windows XP to
Solaris 9 system running Samba-3.0.10 for Active Directory. This
system has been running for a couple of years without problems. Now
recently, the site administrators have added some new servers to the
domain which may have introduced a problem.
This krb5.conf file has been modified to hide the site in question.
