Numlock
We have encountered an anomaly that appears to be related somehow to Samba. When users are moved to the new domain hosted by Samba4.3 then the numlock on their keyboards is always turned off when they log onto the domain regardless of its previous setting. This in itself is just a nuisance. However we have an application called SnetTerm, an ssh client, which will not recognise the numlock at

My Documents folder and roaming profiles.
> >I suppose basically my question is: Is there anyway to get Windows to copy >the profile but exclude the 'My Documents' folder? Maybe you can find your answer at: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/kbase/WindowsTips/WindowsNT/RegistryTips/Disable/Disablecachingofroamingprofiles.html There hou can read: If you want roaming profiles to not include certain folders, you can exclude them. Excluding internet temporary files, cookies, and outlook files can keep the roaming profile small....

how to manually specify domain controllers
We have two Samba 4.2.3 servers with FreeRadius to authenticate wireless users against active directory. Using DNS, sometimes both servers end up using the same domain controller to authenticate users. I would like to distribute the load to different DCs. Is there a way to manually point Samba to certain DCs? I tried the following configuration: security = ads password server =

Numlock
...I do not know how else to phrase the question. The exact same program > used on the exact same workstation does not exhibit this issue when > the station belongs to and is logged on to the old domain. Wow, that is the strangest thing I've heard in a while. Does this help ? http://www.windowsnetworking.com/kbase/WindowsTips/WindowsXP/AdminTips/Customization/EnablingtheNumLockKey.html

AD howtos: LDAP needed?
Hello, Sorry for two messages, but I thought it would make more sense to use one message per question. Why do so many (but not all) AD howtos mention LDAP? Without configuring LDAP I can use getent passwd or getent group to see the users in the AD. Is there a benefit to also editing nsswitch to query LDAP? Degbert.

Why using several Samba4 servers?
Hi! We're trying to figure out the best way to use samba4 in our environment and after testing back and forth we are now left with a question; why would we want to have several samba4 servers? The environment is one HQ with multiple branch offices where each branch office as a network connection to HQ with at least a 2Mbit DSL. The initial idea was to put a samba4 DC in every branch
