Rsync with special characters
Hi,
I'm having problem using rsync from an Ubuntu server to a Windows machine using cygwin and rsync. It works whenever I have a share name that doesn't include a special character like ?, ? or ?. My full command is:
"rsync -avz -e 'ssh -p specialport' user at windowsmachine:/cygdrive/c/?test --iconv=CP1252,utf-8 (Also tride ISO8859-1 and utf-8)"
I thought that iconv would be the solution and when I use it, it changes the ? to \#305. Still I get the message:
"rsync: link_stat "/cygdrive/c/\#305test" failed: No such file or directory (2)"...

can we map windows folder onto unix
Hello,
Does anyone on this list know of any utilities that enables mapping windows
folder onto Unix machine? I am going to do the migration of our intranet
site from IIS to Apache in Linux. As the intranet content is over 15Gig, I
need to migrate in a phase wise manner. So if I can run web server on linux
serving the files from the old intranet box, this would help. Any ideas are
welcome.
Thanks,

User home directories on a windows server question.
Okay I've run out of cool ideas and am hoping that someone can offer a
brilliant solution to this problem.
I'm attempting to deploy a RHEL 5.3 server as a shared ssh servers,
user home directories are coming off a Windows 2008 fileserver. I
though autofs would be the winning solution but it doesn't/can't mount
the users home directory using kerberos, RedHat doesn't

[Bug 2847] New: Group not preserved with rsync 2.6.3 on Cygwin in daemon mode
...up a backup system for Windows and Linux manchines based on rsync.
The backup server is a Linux Debian Sarge with rsync 2.6.5 and winbind
configured in order to preserve ownership and group of files transferred from
Windows Workstations (with rsync running as daemon).
Issuing a rsync -axz rsync://windowsmachine/module/ /backupstorage/ with a high
level of verbosity I notice that the group is always transmitted as "mkgroup"
instead of real group name, thus the backup server can't handle the group and
saves the file with the original gid (from log: gid 11003(mkgroup) maps to
11003). The owners...

version:30.
My Client is a Windows XP machine with Rsync: 3.0.4 (or alternative 3.0.6),
Protocol version:30.
For the conversion between both machines I use the ??iconv=850,UTF-8? ?
switch.
chcp told me that 850 is my codepage on my windowsmachine and locale on
Linux said ther UTF-8 is the current code page.
Now I use the command
Rsync.exe ?agzv ?-iconv=850,utf8 /cygdrive/source Rsync://destination
my output says:

windows can't print :o(
...p the homes share, which works like a dream. Next the
printer. Installed the printer with cups, test, works. Goto samba, create share
good.
Winodws, install printer works. But a testpage never gets printed (wihtout
windows giving an error) and a regular printjob just stays in the spooler on the
windowsmachine, and never even sees samba.
So, what am I doing wrong here?
At the bottom of this mail is the smb.conf.
Thanks for your help and
best regards

Eh? Why don't you search for them then. Try one of:
locate smbmount
find / -name 'smbmount'
> use the command mount -t smbfs //windowsmachine/windowsdisk /mnt/test and
> this worked fine once. Now I get an error evapmc??? something like that, it
> says the directory doesn't exist. Samba works fine within it's own shell
Try it again and then post the complete error message, with the exact
commandline you use (cut-n-paste)...

I am having problems using the smbmount command. It, like many other
commands(linuxconf, etc.), doesn't seem to exist on my machine. I was able to
use the command mount -t smbfs //windowsmachine/windowsdisk /mnt/test and
this worked fine once. Now I get an error evapmc??? something like that, it
says the directory doesn't exist. Samba works fine within it's own shell
(smbclient command) but I need to mount my windows disks to get any kind of
use out of them.
