https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Windows_Virtio_Drivers
states
qxl/: QXL graphics driver for Windows 7 and earlier. (build
virtio-win-0.1.103-1 and later)
qxldod/: QXL graphics driver for Windows 8 and later. (build
virtio-win-0.1.103-2 and later)
So stable is not fresh enough while latest contains both.

Re: virtual drive performance
...You should set SCSI as controller type in my opinion if you have a recent
version of libvirt/qemu/kvm
That said, I don't know what is the level of support for W2016 at time with
virtio and virtio-scsi drivers.
You can download iso and virtual floppy images here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Windows_Virtio_Drivers
The method could be to add a new disk with the desired controller to the
guest: virtio or virtio-scsi
Then configure it using iso or vfd images
Then shutdown the guest and set also the boot disk with the same virtio or
virtio-scsi controller and try to boot again.
Having installed the drivers i...

Virtualbox vdi Input Format and man pages
Hi,
I am new to v2v/libguestfs.
I need to convert a 30 GB virtual machine running Windows7 64 bit (a guest on a Linux system) from Virtualbox vdi format to qcow2 (or raw/img--another debate in itself) so I can use libvirt/qemu/kvm to run it and completely migrate away from Virtualbox.
The vdi machine is a mission critical production environment and I cannot afford to mess it up, etc. Will keep

win2008r2 update on centos 6 host made system unbootable
...with the system but
right now I see no way to tell windows "Uninstall the driver completely
for the entire system" so that on the next boot it would fall back to
the old virtio driver from Red Hat.
I tried installing the current stable drivers from this URL:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Windows_Virtio_Drivers
But Windows refuses and says the driver is already up-to-date.
What worries me is that I want to update other win2008r2 guests as well
but now fear that they will all be rendered unbootable by such an update.

Dennis

This message below just posted at ovirt-users mailing list so that for
drivers you can use this iso, that seems supporting W2016 (not tested
myslef yet):

USB3 driver?
...re-download/windows10ISO
With regard choosing USB. I choose USB 3 for Windows virtual machines as
I have been getting locks when selecting and using the USB 2 setting.
The drivers for your Windows guest should/will be primarily VirtIO.
These can be downloaded from:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Windows_Virtio_Drivers#Direct_download
A note on your previous mail. I have had issues adding USB devices (e.g.
USB sticks) in running virtual machines. Removing any USB redirectors
fixed it for me.

win2008r2 update on centos 6 host made system unbootable
Hi,
today we ran into a strange problem: When performing a regular Windows
2008r2 update apparently among other things the following was installed:
"SUSE - Storage Controller - SUSE Block Driver for Windows"
Previously the disk drive was using the Red Hat virtio drivers which
worked just fine but after the reboot after the update I just get a blue
screen indicating that Windows cannot

Maybe you can try the lastest virtio-win-0.1.133.iso :

drivers in a Windows guest post-conversion is a PITA which is why
virt-v2v may be better if you require virtio.
So ... to the topic: We don't specifically test conversion from
VirtualBox or .vdi. But it ought to work.
You will need the virtio drivers from:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Windows_Virtio_Drivers
You can either install that package so it appears under
/usr/share/virtio-win, or you can use the .iso file from that package
and set the VIRTIO_WIN environment variable to point to it:

I'd say switching the disk from IDE to virtio should be the
very first step - and while you're at it, you might as well
use virtio for the network interface too.
