Windind (Samba 4.2.*, 4.5.2, 4.5.4) recurring resolving failure for some specific users
Hello Volker.
I come back after a long time. I captured today two Samba traces (log
level globally cranked to 10) comparing, with a problematic user,
a successful session and, later, a failed one. With one "net cache
flush", the session will succeed again and... later (can be 2 minutes,
can be 40), will fail again. This elusive bug is killing me.
For some really annoyed users I

Problems with Windind Authentication
Hi,
I have a File Server as Domain Member and it was working properly.
Recently I changed my DCs and after I am not getting authenticate users
with winbind.
I'm using Samba 4.6.3 as DC and Samba 4.1.17 as File Server.
When I restart Samba Service, this message appears:
root at dc1:/root# /etc/init.d/samba4 status
● samba4.service - LSB: start Samba4 daemons

Windind (Samba 4.2.*, 4.5.2) recurring resolving failure for some specific users
Hello.
I'm facing an seemingly unsolvable problem on the Samba servers I
administer (on Debian stable). Those servers are registered on a
AD domain. They only serve files and are not registered as domain
controllers. For some idendified users (always the same), Winbind
periodically (but unpredicably) becomes unable to resolve their names,
making their shares unavailable. A "net cache

Kerberos case sensitive with Mac OS X on Samba 3.0.x
Hi List,
I'm having an issue between Samba and OS X with regards to Kerberos authentication to a Samba AD member server.
I'm using local UNIX accounts and entries in the passdb instead of Windind on the samba server, ie create account by adding
to /etc/passwd then smbpasswd -a username. From an OS X client system if I obtain a ticket for user "UserA" like
kinit UserA@KERBEROS.REALM then when I run klist I see the default principal remebers the case I used to obtain the ticket.
Now...

Home Directories on the fly?
Hello all,
I have a functional samba/windind file server (SLES 10) thats a member server of an Active Directory domain. I'm able to successfully resolve user and group accounts from AD. The problem I'm having is samba isn't creating home directories automatically when I try to map to a AD user share from Win XP. What I am able...

Active Directory authentication
...rough POP3 against Active Directory by Outlook Express so that users will
authenticate seamlessly using logon credentials.
I have implemented LDAP authentication but users must supply their
credentials to Outlook Express although they have logged on to Windows (AD).
the ntlm auth in Dovecot 1.1 (windind) satisies this requirement (no
credentials in Outlook)?
thanks

Samba 4.9, RSAT, Windows 10 - "Cannot Manage the operating System..."
I'm trying to get an Samba AD setup. I thought I had RSAT working, but
when I launch the server manager I get the error message:
"Error - Cannot manage the operating system of the target computer"
I can ping the computer and the internal DNS seems to be working.
I can manually create shares & I can browse netlogon and sysvol
of the AD server.
Am I missing something or is this

Winbind auhentication
...onfig... :)
I can't help you with your config, but I would *strongly* recommend
that you just make all your users virtual ones, and all using the same
backend. Now you don't say if your local user account works or not,
but I'd work on getting just the AD part (really, you're using
windind?) first.
Also, have you compared your postfix and dovecot setups? There are
good docs out there on how you combine them to use the same
authentication backend.
And the info you posted really don't help much, since you don't post
any log messages from when the authentication fails. That...

SAMBA 4 Member Server - Help please
Hi all,
I'm quite stuck here at the moment. I have tried this multiple times to get built and can't seem to get it working properly. I have a test virtual server running as a domain controller with Samba 4.1.15 using (9.10.1) bind_dlz as the back end and all works properly. I have the server setup as domain controller and have added a user and I can look that user up with the samba-tool

SAMBA 4 Member Server - Help please
...winbindd, smbd, and nmbd playing nicely together and can look users up without issue against the DC.
Make sure winbind is actually running on the member server.
Also, make sure your users actually have uid and gid attributes in ldap.
If not, I don't think they will show up (I use sssd, so my windind is
rusty). If wbinfo -u does show users, but getent passwd does not, this is
likely your problem. Make sure you use the --uid-number and --gid-number
options when you create users with samba-tool, or you can add them with
ADUC, or you can use scripts like

domain authentication issue after rebooting the linux VM
...hat if OEL server get rebooted/restarted then we see domain account authentication is not working, I see status of winbind service which says its running & also 'net ads testjoin' command is OK after rebooting the server, just domain authentication is not working. And when I restart the windind service then authentication will work, so every time we need to restart the winbind service after rebooting on server, why domain authentication is not working on reboot of server.??

Remove 'winbind' from the 'shadow' line, it cases problems and isn't
required.
