intermittent failure of ability to connect to samba share from win (NT/2k) client
...erver and the PDC/WINS server is observed. Sometimes bouncing smbd or nmbd works, sometimes it takes many restarts. I've pretty much ruled out DNS/NIS at this point as other services which rely on name resolution would have been complaining by now ;-) I've taken packet traces between winclient and sambaserver (fictitious names ;-) of the failing and succeeding connections and they are surprisingly quite disparate in content. I've included them here for your inspection (my apologies for the length). (Unrelated packets have been filtered out). Your comments/opinions are very wel...

Question about silos and Authentication policies
I was playing around again with Windows and when you add members to silos, or remove them, it should not set/unset assigned silo on the user. So I've got a new pull request in Draft state still where I remove that functionality, as well as add some new commands to samba-tool user command. It turned out to be easier to add sub commands to user, as edit user wasn't quite what I thought

Re: Filelocking-Problem: Mars_NWE together with Samba
Hi there, we've got the following problem, while Windows-Clients works with samba and a DOS-Client connects over Mars_NWE to the same Linux-Server: When the DOS-Client opens a file on the linux-server and the WinClient opens the same file, and when both clients want to write the same file, the windows-client gets an error and crashes. We tried it only with the windows-clients and there is no problem, writing the same file in the same time. So we think this is an Mars_NWE problem. Is there anybody who has the...

Encryption
I want to (continue to) use Samba code to obtain data needed by my Linux client. This is currently done by calls into Samba's libraries. Unfortunately the resulting rpc traffic is unencrypted. I think this has to do with the configuration of encryption mechanisms on both sides, but perhaps (since when talking to older Windows systems, e.g. Windows 2000) encryption (with NTLM SSP I

samba-3.4.7 & access to share from win7
Hello list, I have tried rather much (forums, google) and trying this as the last option. The problem is that one is not able to access "group" samba shares from windows 7 machines, everything ok from win-ts-2003 & xp machines. Every user belongs to his primary group defined in samba+openldap pdc. If they want to access the share named according to their primary group (with

Why does a W2K (pro) client do more than it is asked to do?
Desperate to find out why connecting to a samba share(on an AIX server) from W2K is so slow, I tried connecting to the same share from a Linux box, using smbclient: smbclient \\\\aixserver\\sharedir$ -U lynn The results were amazing. The connection was so MUCH FASTER then connecting from a W2K (pro) workstation: \\aixserver\sharedir$ (in the Start|Run edit box) When I examined the samba log

Hi! How do you guys solve windows security updates? Is there a way to force windows computers to be updated. Even more flexible is if one can update windows through login script. Automatic Windows Patch Deployment (OS Agnostic)
A month ago I mentioned on this list work on a automated package deployment tool for Windows systems, which is server agnostic. At the time, I didn't have the time to put it up in a place for public consumption. I do now. The utility is named wpkg (punny isn't it?) It's nothing more than a simple .js (jscript) file which needs to be run on Windows, from a directory containing three
