Win2K Profiles and a Samba PDC.
We're a Solaris/Linux shop, trying to migrate the last vestiges of our
NT domain over to Samba. We've got a few users using Windows 20000
workstations, and for some odd reason can't get them to join the domain
with local profiles. The Winboxen always try to create roaming profiles
on the PDC (which we don't want), and there's no way to force a local
profile, other than letting the Windows box create a profile directory
when the user logs in, then setting their profile to 'local'.
So, in short, we want to force the Win...

can't browse across subnets
Hi folks -
I'm having an issue here.
I have my samba server sitting on one subnet, and the rest of the clients
sitting on another (due to IP administration reasons).
I assign both my clients and the server to the same workgroup, but
the winboxen clients can't browse to the samba server.
The win clients all have WINS resolution turned on, and I specified
all of my WINS servers in smb.conf, however, my server isn't showing
up in the workgroup. I need the server to show up in the workgroup, because
there is a winbox with an unresolve...

Linux 2.2.0 and Samba client not happening for me
...O error
One thing that is different/seems odd, is that the smbmount stays
running after the disk is mounted. I don't recall this behavior
in 2.0.36/1.9.18p8.
--------------
I tried backing down to 2.0.36 with Samba 2.0.0 because my backup
scheme revolves around duke sucking files off of the Winboxen. The
disks do not mount at all. smbmount reports "invalid option". I
believe this to be a non-documented "-s" passed from mount to smbmnt.
(more newbie declaratives)
Please please please help. I am loving the Linux but my 10base100
wire grows cold from no bitzen traffiken....

Samba 3 vs. Windows 2003
...e worried about why you get these
inferior & contradictory values. You are using some kind of
hardware raid controller with a scsi plug to you system and
it strikes me as an extremely poor design performance-wise.
No wonder it performs so poorly. About 45 MB/s both ways are
possible between winboxen and samba with G-NICs and good
disks. I only have a bdc and 5 w2k/xp workstations on a low-cost
NetGear 8-port G-switch (the other 50 or so clients connect
through a fast-lan switch) but I do get about 35 MB/s to and
from pcs and up to 60 MB/s between sambatistas.
The ext3 file system has a proble...

Dovecot 1.2.12 + Postfix + virtual domains: delivering to system users
As mentioned in my previous posting, I've set up a mailserver for a domain of
Winboxen, authenticated through Active Directory. After some struggles, I
finally got that working. But I also need to receive emails for a few system
users on the mailserver (like postmaster, and a couple of accounts set up
for maintaining the system).
I thought, based on the way I read the docum...

Limiting incoming SIP calls & Original CallerID on transfer
I have 2 issues which I need to resolve on our production Asterisk
server:
We are currently using Polycom IP600 VOIP phones for our office which
are capable of handling 2 calls per SIP registration. What we're finding
is when staff are on the phone, Asterisk will pass them a second call
which will show up on their display, and an audible beep is heard over
the phone (regular call waiting). I

login scripts --what to use
Hi,
We're setting up a PDC, and would like to have a login script to deliver
the mapped drives to users in particular groups, and connect to
printers. The printer drivers come from the [print$], share.
Does anyone have any good resources for this? What's the easiest and
simplest thing to get going --vbscript or batch files?
Thanks,
chris
