domain admins not being applied to windows box
Hi, I have recently upgaded from samba 2.2 to samba 3.0. I used to have "domain admin group = @winadmin" in my smb.conf, but I understand from the documentation that it is deprecated in favour of "net groupmap set "Domain Admin" winadmin". I would expect unix users who are members of the unix group winadmin to become Domain Admins, then, but they don't ?. Do I

samba with ldapsam: first "net join" always fails, second succeeds
Created an "add machine" script that basically looks for an unused uid/rid, and then creates a stub LDAP entry for the machine; the first time I issue "net join", the script is invoked and creates the LDAP entry correctly, but the join operation fails nevertheless: f1sa:~# net -U winadmin join winadmin's password: [2006/09/08 10:19:40, 0] utils/net_ads.c:ads_startup(191)

Problems with migrating from local to roaming profiles
Hello everyone! I have had a lot of luck with mailing lists in the past, so I'm hoping this one works out well also. I've recently helped my company move from an NT4 PDC to a Samba 2.2.7a PDC and everything has gone smoothly until this point. We made the decision to migrate to roaming profiles so our users could move around and use whichever computer they wanted to unlike before,

another Win2KSP3/Samba2.2.8a-PDC Problem
Hi list, I am faced by a strange problem w/ one of our 10 win2k/sp3 clients in a samba2.2.8a pdc-network. If I want to logon I get a message like this(translated from german): "Your profile has not been loaded, but you will be logged in to a local Profile. Your serverside profile has not been loaded because its security-properties are not properly." and that's it. Even if I blast my

NSS and group enumeration in CUPS...
I was used (in SambaNT/OpenLDAP) to put on CUPS configuration the statement (/etc/cups/cups-files.conf): SystemGroup printops and add to 'printops' group some users that can manage cups. Now i'm in AD mode. I'm in 'printops' group: root at vdmpp1:~# id gaio uid=10000(gaio) gid=10513(domain users) gruppi=10513(domain

Moving a computer from a down domain to a new domain
I had been running a samba server, the AMAHI F12 distro, that has samba 3.4.9. It ran well enough, but I was planning on replacing it with ClearOS. Well monday night I lost my server harddrive, so now it is crunch time to update/upgrade. I think I have ClearOS configured properly, it is running samba 3.6.10 (Redhat 6.4 based). So far I have tried to add two of my XP systems to the new

More LDAP samba 2.2.7a problems
Hey guys. I have been trying to get samba and LDAP with win2k SP3 clients to work together and have just not be able to get it to work. I followed the suggestion of adding a guest user to LDAP with an rid of 501, but it hasn't help. Here is what happens. If a user logs in and they don't have a profile the computer will save one to the server when they log out without any problems.

libnss-ldap vs winbind?
I set up winbind on one box successfully. Now a friend told me that it might be better to use ActiveDirectoriy (the PDC and all other servers are win2000). What is the difference in both approaches? which is 'better'? I feel that ldap is the more general and cleaner solution. Is that true? My windows-admins will get rid of wins soon. does winbind rely on wins? can libnss-ldap also create

NSS and group enumeration in CUPS...
Hai Marco, What i did, i added 1 real linux user in the group unix group lpadmin. With this user i configured the webinterface and set kerberos auth. ( i did already setup ssl things like that for the webinterface. ) Get this file. https://raw.githubusercontent.com/thctlo/samba4/master/samba-check-SePrivileges.sh This shows you all groups and privileges that are setup. LDAP and a strange problem
Hello. I have been looking through the archives of the lists and I didn't find what I was looking for so I figured that I will post what my problem and maybe one of you gurus can give me a hand with it. I have Windows 2000 SP3 clients that are joined to a domain with the samba server acting as PDC. I am using samba 2.2.7a compiled with ldapsam support and I am storing all user

Samba-2.2.3a and Win95?
Hi out there again, i just installed Samba-2.2.3a as a PDC on a Solaris-Box (2.6) and encounter Problems with Windows95 Logons. log.nmbd says: [2002/02/25 15:38:52, 1] nmbd/nmbd_processlogon.c:process_logon_packet(69) process_logon_packet: Logon from 10.170.20.8: code = 0x0 And Windows95b states: Invalid parameter. NSS and group enumeration in CUPS...
Hai, @Rowland. Yes, the link is what i have setup, but in less steps without sssd. For the kerberos part, you only need to add the HTTP/UPN. After a join with winbind you have the host/UPN. I must say that the CUPS setup is working great. Only 1 or 2 problems in almost 2 years. @Marco, > ...but you have added 'locally' (eg, in /etc/group > and /etc/shadow) the user

Multiple Instancies of Samba on a single System
Hi out there, i intend to run multiple Instancies of Samba on a single, multi-homed, server, with each instance bound to a specific (logical) interface. If this works, it would be fine to me. Mainly for administrative Reasons. (You won't believe, but from time to time it becomes necessary to restart some services, but restarting the entire server is a real mess) Well here my
