Samba 2.0.7 and Win98SE
I have been having an irritating problem with my home network. My
network consists of 1 PC running Mandrake 8.0 as the file server with Samba
2.0.7, three PCs running Win98SE and one PC running Win XP.
I have had the network running for almost two years in various OS
configurations and for the most part have had smooth operations. However,
my problem comes when I try and copy, move, or save any

Win98SE to Samba 2.0.10 Problems
Thanks for the answers so far but I haven't been able to come up with an
solution yet :(
Some new info (see bottom of email for history):
1. I upgraded to 2.0.10 on my Mandrake 8.0, no change to the transfer
problem.
2. I attempted to ftp a file from the Win 98SE PC to my Samba Server,
didn't work. So I can assume that it is not specifically Samba problem.
3. I have changed the NIC cards

FW: Was: Win98SE and Samba 2.0.10 Problems
Well as a further to my last, I broke down and put a copy of Win98SE on a
spare HDD in my Mandrake server box. First moment it was up and running, I
tried to transfer the files between the two problem computers and BINGO! It
worked. So sadly I must assume that the problem must lie on my Linux server
:(
As I have previously tried both Mandrake 8.0 and Redhat 7.1 and end up with
the same transfer

Was: Win98SE and Samba 2.0.10 Problems
Well the weekend didn't bring any solutions to this unhappy camper. I spent
most of my time trying to narrow down the problem again. I started out by
installing a quick copy of ZipSlack on the Win98SE machine to determine once
and for all if the problem was a Windows problem or not. Well, I tried a
simple FTP from the ZipSlack to my Mandrake 8.0 server and it hung up like
in Windows. So I

Win98SE
Hello,
Can I run Win98SE in Wine?
I've an old game I'd like to run once more that *only* works with
DirectX 6.0b and no other. Stupid, right? Wine is my last hope in
playing that game...
Thanks!

SMB3.0 with XP Home and Win98SE clients. XP no go, what should I do?
I want to have SMB server to authenticate all my users. Problem is that
I have 8 Win98SE workstations and 2 XP Home laptops. I know XP Home
won't do domain log-ons. What are my options (I would realy hate giving
M$ more money by upgrading laptops to PRO)?
How can I do user based log-ins in that kind of environment?
Thanks,

incomplete smbmount smbfs Win98SE iso8859-1 translation in kernel 2.4.18
I'm getting only partial iso8859-1 translation from an smbfs mount from
my Win98SE machine. The smbfs mounted file system shows most lower-case
accented characters fine; but, it substitutes underscores for most of
the upper-case accented characters (and a few lower-case ones too):

Help with Domain login Win98se and Samba 2.2.4
I am not new to samba, but i have come across a problem that has me
stumped. This may not have anything to do with samba, and i am fairly
certain it does not... however... please bear with me and offer any
suggestions you may have as it does have to do with interoperability
between MS and samba.
I have a win98se freshly rebuilt workstation and a RedHat 7.2 machine

Samba PDC + Win98se Printing Problem
Hi,
I have a Samba PDC (2.2.7) and a win98se workstation using user-level access control.
The win98 pc has 2 shares, a directory and a printer. The shares on the workstation are setup with full control for "Domain Users". I can list the shares (smbclient -L //pcname) and can connect to the shared directory, list files, etc. However if I try to connect to the printer, I get this error

Access denial
Hi,
My name is Tom Faulhaber. I am the network administrator at a small company
in Providence,RI.
I am running Samba 2.2.2 on a Redhat 6.1 machine on a Novell 4.21 network.
The workstations are Win98SE. The Linux box is being used for the company
intranet (Apache 1.3.22).
Everything runs fine, however I am completely stumped on one issue (so far).
That issue is: network connectivity. If I

Syslinux 3.70 - BSS DOS boot says: "Could not find kernel Image: linux".
Hello, I'm trying to create and boot a Win98SE-DOS OS through Hard Disk emulation. My src files are from a Win98SE 1440K floppy image file, with a x86 boot sector (dl'd from the net - I have no floppy drive and a slow net link 3.2KB).
I don't know what to put into the partition boot record of my image and how to load dos.bss properly (the docs explain for floppy images not for HD

slow read/writes to Samba share from Win98SE
Recently setup Samba on a RH Linux 6.1 box at home - network is 100bT - and
printing /browsing works great.
However reading or writing files of any size to the share seems overly
slow. For instance a simple 1MB PNG file takes 20-30 seconds to load
up. Of my local HD it's instant.
Any ideas what could be causing this? I read through quite a few docs to
get this working to begin with :)

Problem printing from win98SE client
I am trying to print to my HP 722c printer from a Windows 98SE client. My
Samba server is a Mandrake 8.2 running version 2.2.3a. I can print from
the linux computer but not from Windows. I am able to save files to the
shared directory so I know that the networking is okay.
I can open the Printer folder from Windows and I see the Samba printer
there. I double click on the printer to bring up

Problem booting from CF/SD cards and USB Flashdrives using syslinux
I've run into a rather odd problem. It seems that I can format and make
bootable CF/SD cards and USB Flashdrives under Windows 98SE and MS-DOS
6.22 that will boot to a A: prompt on my system.
But when I try making the same CF/SD cards and USB Flashdrives bootable
under linux using syslinux I get nothing, not even a error message. It's
like the syslinux bootloader doesn't even

vfat / ftruncate problem
I recently added a 60Gig HD to my little linux server at home with the intention of sharing it via Samba to all my PCs which run Windows 98SE. I really want to use vfat file system on it.
The server is running Mandrake 8.1, so kernel 2.4.something, and the Samba that came with it.
Much to my disappointment I quickly discovered poor performance copying files to it, the copy is like slow to get
