Samba 4.3.11 on FreeBSD-10.3 - Firefox problem on Win7Pro
We have recently converted our users from a Windows2000Advanced Server AD-DC to a Samba-4.3.11. AD-DC. For the most part this went very well, saving only for the degree of ignorance respecting things MicroSoft evidenced by myself. However, one of our users persistently reports difficulties with their roaming profile. Specifically, their Firefox profile. This did not occur before the change-over

Win7pro can't authenticate dcom identity
I have a Samba 3.4.7 PDC set up (Ubuntu 10.10/OpenLDAP) and have configured a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit workstation as a domain member. Logins and shares work without a hitch. I'm running into a problem with ArcGIS 10 Server on Windows using domain accounts for the services. ArcGIS post-install fails because it won't take the username/password combination of the domain account. I initially

Windows 7 Offline Files (CSC) not syncing from Samba 3.4.0 PDC
...g a Samba 3.4.0 on Ubuntu 9.10 for over a year at a friend's office and it has been extremely stable. But I've suddenly hit a scenario where Windows 7 clients can no longer properly sync the main share as 'Offline Files' I found it highly unreliable under Vista Business, then Win7Pro seemed to work much better; but suddenly I am finding that the sync is succeeding but the files are not actually available offline. Here are the scenarios I am seeing: 1) A user updates an offline copy of an Open Office document or presentation. When the user sync's, the updated copy is...

Samba-4.3 AD-DC Win7pro clients not time syncing
We have a Samba-4.3 AD-DC hosted on a FreeBSD-10.3 system. We have just discovered that for some reason our domain workstations are not synchronising their time with the AD-DC. We have not altered the default GPO nor have we created a special GPO to handle time services. I have been working on several of the domain clients and I cannot seem to get them to source from the Samba server. I have

And now for something completely different. Win7 on KVM
As you can probably guess by now I am working my way down through my outstanding issue list trying to get as many deferred items closed out as I can before the next security storm hits. We have a Win7pro KVM guest that has been giving us networking issues since it was created. The last problem was that it was picking up its network address from the virtio DHCP service, with predicable results. This turned out to be an issue with how the virtual nic was configured (it was using NAT instead of the...

two samba4 questions
Hello everyone, Currently I test smb4. I successfully installed samba 4 (ntp, internal_dns) including a joined win7pro client + I'm able to use Windows Remote Administration Tools and the Group Policy Management stuff. _1 Backup Is there a common way to backup samba4 for disaster recovery scenarios or to port it to another machine? _2 Security tab is missing on Shares only I defined a trivial share in smb.con...

I have gone through the console history and samba-tool has only been used to initially provision and query. samba 4.1.17 on raspberry pi as ad dc - first good results!
...f need be I could go deeper into raspbian and see if I can forceable disable ipv6 however, in the not too distant future, the possibility to at least run a dualstack should exist. forcing ipv6 off in the OS would be a step in the wrong direction for that :) --- just tested... I was able to add a win7pro to the domain!

Samba4 AD/DC and Virtual Machines?
...software there did not seem to be any automated way of doing this. At least none that I could find. But moving stuff was fairly simple. We just copied it into the proper places on the new server USERS share directory and then set the profile and home drive to the appropriate root using RSAT from Win7Pro workstation. Windows set the permissions appropriately and everything seems to work for the handful of users that have so far converted. If you also virtualise a Windows client on the same host as the Samba AD-DC then it should have its own virtualised network interface. This virtual-if can be as...

PDC on 3.0.8 upgraded to 3.5.6-70 now getting 'Access Is Denied' from clients
...go on a 2 wk vacation and generally uptime on the box was about 350 days and I'd shut it down. It just worked. Well, I have recently been upgrading some boxes (2.4 GHz P4 was the top machine on the domain) and the last one I build is going to replace one of the domain computers, but it is win7pro. I found that the box did not join the domain and upon investigation learned I must have 3.3 or 3.4 and some registry tweaks. SO WHAT HAVE I DONE? --------------------- I really only cared about the data on my shares and the samba configuration so my plan was to tar up the linux disk into a 4...
