access samba 3.0 shares from Win2K, Win3K, WinXPProf. using netbios name
...Linux 7.3 server with SaMBa (tested with rpm samba-3.0.0-2, and compiling the samba source code). I'd joined the linux server to the AD tree without problems, access from it to the Win2003 shared resources too, but I have problems when try to access to the SaMBa resources from the Win2K, Win3K, WinXPProf machines. The things I can do are: - obtain a kerberos ticket: kinit ADMINISTRATOR@DOMAIN - join to the domain using this ticket: smb ads join -k - obtain a domain user or group list: wbinfo -u/-s - obtain an entire list of the users or groups (Unix+Domain): getent passwd/group -...

Joining samba-3.0.0beta3-1 to a Win3k Domain as a member server
Hello I am currently setting up a new domain structure at work, and am trying to set up samba to authenticate against my Active directory domain. What I am having trouble doing is joining the Linux system to the domain. The system is running Redhat 8.0, no updates with samba-3.0.0beta3 Here is the error I get [2003/07/29 09:32:53, 3] libads/sasl.c:ads_sasl_spnego_bind(190) got

Unusual Crashes in winbind
So far we have been working well for a week now. We are using Samba 3.02a on suse 9. Authentication is against an win3k AD. Apart from a Kerberos ticket expiring, (a croned restart fixes this) we have one new problem We found we needed an additional AD server as the primary begun to fail on a regular basis. So we added one. Now this new server grabs the authentication requests before the old one and when it does th...

smbspool and printing
...ol to print, but this requires user password. Can I automate this so there is no need for password? Because the users have authenticated to windows server and thay have access to there files through smb mount. So can I do something like this. Currently when a user logs in I have this: #df smb://win3kADSserver/home/user /homes Now can I add something like this: smb://win3kADSserver/printers /somewhere Now point cups at this /somewhere/laser-jet...? Or do something else with smbspool? Just a note, the win3k server is running a lexmark accounting package, therefore I need the users to print as...

password authentication stops but can be restarted
...tc/sfw/smb.users [homes] writeable = yes valid users = +sysadmin wide links = no [app] path = /var/data_path writeable = yes valid users = app_id wide links = no smb.users id_1 = DOMAINX\win_id_1 id_2 = DOMAINX\win_id_2 app_id = DOMAINX\win_id_app Note that the Windows password server is Win3K and that I have various versions of Sun supplied SAMBA. I do have some SAMBA share that use Win2K authentication and those do not seem to have this issue.

Samba 3.0.6 Problems w/AD and Kerberos
Running into a lot of people upgrading to the 3.0.6 package that all of a sudden begin to experience the "Failed to verify incoming ticket!" errors etc., that are generally associated with a kerberos package incompatibility. However many of these people are running later versions of kerberos *and* reverting to a previous version of Samba appears to fix the issue. Is there something new

I guess so do I ;-) Using the new approach I posted to samba-list earlier today, it is not really all that tricky any more. Watch for my reports on the list, you may be able to implement what I've done
