Cannot reconnect network drives from Windows XP
Dear Samba List, My Windows XP machine is unable to reconnect my Linux samba network drive when I login. I installed: Win2000_PlainPassword.reg which allows me to connect manually, but it is a requirement that this be automatic on each login. Has anyone found a way to achieve this? Thanks, Dick

Samba and WindowsXP
....17f box, even though I can see the share. I log in under XP with the identical login as I would under IRIX. When I try to map the drive, I even pick "Connect using a different user name" and type in my UNIX login and passwd, but it won't map the network drive. I've applied the Win2000_PlainPassword.reg, with no results, of course. The only thing that works right now is reading and writing to a share that has "guest ok = yes" configured. Another two crucial pieces of information are that the PC bucket which runs XP is part of a work group, as are the Samba servers. The reason bein...

Dispelling Myths About Samba Encrypted passwords, NT_STATUS_LOGON _FAILURE and XP
...it? * Does definition of WorkGroups change across different Windows versions? * Lastly, is there any tricks involved in getting samba to work with Windows XP? I want it so it uses the unix user authentication if possible. I've loaded the WinXP_SignOrSeal.reg patch on XP. I also loaded the Win2000_PlainPassword.reg in the hope I could access my shares from my XP box. Im running Samba-2.2.3a and here is my smb.conf: [global] workgroup = utopia debuglevel = 2 server string = Samba Server load printers = yes log file = /var/log/samba.%m max log size = 50 security = user [homes] com...

Windows 2000 patch for passwords
Hello, I'm a new subscriber and hope I don't break any rules. We have just bought some new PC's pre-installed with Windows 2000. On our previous installations (NT and 95/98) we applied the EnablePlainTextPassword registry patch to allow our PCs to communicate with our Unix server and other systems - no problem. Is there a similar patch for Windows 2000? We can't communicate,

EnablePlainTextPassword for Win2K
Installed v205 for Solaris8, and successfully exec'd tests 1-7 -- but failed 8-10 -- in //doc/docs/textdocs/DIAGNOSIS.txt. Errors... TEST 8 "System error 5 has occured. Access is denied." TESTS 9 & 10 "The account is not authorized to log in from this station." I recall from a previous life that the solution is to modify a registry key (EnablePlainTextPassword or

Stand-alone samba & Win2k
...recently been upgraded (and, subsequently, samba was too). The trouble is that, now, I can't seem to connect to the samba server as anyone. I was just wondering if someone could give me a definitive guide as to what lines I need in my config file? All the machines have been patched with the Win2000_PlainPassword.reg file, and up until now it's worked swimmingly. Previously I was using these options in the config file: ; guest account = pcguest security = share ; encrypt passwords = yes ; smb passwd file = /etc/smbpasswd ; username map = /etc/smbusers I don't need to do domain stuff or a...

SeBackupPrivilege
We're using Samba 3.0.21a-1 on a CentOS 4.2 server (kernel 2.6.9-22.0.2.ELsmp); everything works more or less fine, it's functioning as the PDC with an OpenLDAP back end (setup essentially straight from the Idealx.org playbook), etc. We're trying to mount Windows shares to back them up, and getting "permission denied" errors when trying to read certain files from those
