Dovecot v2.0 wiki
I forked the wiki to http://wiki1.dovecot.org/ is the old docs for v1.x http://wiki2.dovecot.org/ is the new docs for v2.0 For now wiki.dovecot.org points to wiki1, but once v2.0 is released I'll change it to point to wiki2. I symlinked the user directory, so users should stay synced between the wikis. The main reason for wik...

Denying authentication
Hello, I've been running dovecot for over 3 years now and it works with no problems. I have it setup so that it authenticates users against Active Directory via LDAP and so far no problems. What I would like to know is if there is any way that I could deny access for users trying to access email via cellphones or email clients outside the company. I can

Dovecot not processing through Sieve
Hello everyone, I'm fairly new to Dovecot, but I've gotten the majority of things working except for Sieve. I'm running Dovecot 1.2.9 coupled with Postfix and SpamAssassin all with a virtual domains setup. I am receiving mail and it is being processed by all the plugins that operate through Postfix. The quota configured in Dovecot appears to be working because my mail client shows

trying to make cmusieve happen globally
...package "dovecot-common" since the files are there. I am wanting to right now just do a very basic test of the setup to see how it runs before doing more sophisticated steps that could obscure any errors or bugs (e.g. unit testing). So I took the following example sieve script from the wiki1 documentation: require "fileinto"; if header :contains "X-Spam-Flag" "YES" { fileinto "spam"; } and recoded it to skip the test and just always do the fileinto step like so: require "fileinto"; fileinto "spamtest"; Then I configured...

Dovecot Proxy
...iders and they really don't want to share their mails on a "shared-mailserver". I planed to use Dovecot for IMAPS, POP3S, SMTP-submission(465) and postfix for the rest. If I find a solution for sieve, I would try that too, but that is very optional. With the documentation https://wiki1.dovecot.org/HowTo/ImapProxy (which is really old and should be updated) and some other ascii docs (from an Apple mirror somewhere deep in the web) I was able to build a IMAP/POP3 proxy that forwards requests from outside to a specific backend using SSL (993,995). That works - I think. You can fi...

ATTN TIMO: Man pages of "deliver"
...ki's both say to use "-n" in postfix's master.cf which keeps dovecot's lda from automatically creating the folders. People are pulling hair over this! The default should be to not use -n as most will want their directories automatically created. The dovecot wikis, at least wiki1, also do not include the -e option to be more verbose to postfix, on error. Jerrale G.Jerrale G. SC Senior Admin

Fail2ban and logging
...),.* ------ This way fail2ban is counting 22 attempts as 1 attempt... I expect I need to change something on the logging, so that every attempt is seperate logged. But I don't know how. Is here somebody who knows how to get fail2ban correct working? Hierarchy separator recommendation?
The dot '.' will work, but I suggest to follow documentation here: https://wiki1.dovecot.org/Namespaces, And it says: A commonly used separator is '/'. It probably causes the least amount of trouble with different IMAP clients And I already had problems using '.' as a namespace separator. On 2020-04-24 15:56, Sami Ketola wrote: > >> On 24. Oldies but Goldies - Dovecot 1.2 and Sieve
Hi, we still run dovecot 1.2.17 and upgrading is not planed for some time. But I'm asked to install a sieve system to be used with SOGo soon. What do I have to install / configure? Is installing/configuring the dovecot-sieve-0.1.19 and dovecot-managesieve-0.11.13 enough? We still use mostly the default settings for imaps/pop3s. And of course configure SOGo. Thanks for any feedback.

Mysql access denied
Currently using dovecot 2.0.12 and mysql server 4.0.20 (I know, it's really old) and having issues getting Dovecot to authenticate to the mysql server. We have confirmed that the credentials are correct and the host machine can access the database, however we are getting the following error: Jun 23 08:12:50 hostname dovecot: auth: Error: mysql(databaseserver.com): Connect failed to database

Also not reading the first line above the menu. My focus was really on the content. ;-) Also my problem with the doc of Dovecot2 proxy is, that the document https://doc.dovecot.org/configuration_manual/authentication...

imap, imaps, ports; config for secure-only service
...;secure-only' service on a non-standard port. Objective is to open a secure Dovecot service on an internet-visible port, while also using an insecure service for hosts on an internal network (so that one particular client which is not SSL/TLS-capable can continue to use the service). Checking wiki1 and wiki2, I think that port 143 can be used for a service in both encrypted and unencrypted operations. (Wiki2 describes how port 143 can be used with or without STARTTLS.) I've managed to run both TB/Vista, and KMail/Debian on 143 from local machines, and they seem to work fine. (Though th...

Can't get authentication for masterusers on Mac OS X Server 10.6.8
...y using the masterusers authentication method on the old 10.6.8 server... The main problem on OS X Server 10.6.8 is that dovecot 1.1.20 uses the OD (OpenDirectory) driver (well I think), so that when following the directions of Master users/password from this page I can't login with the http://wiki1.dovecot.org/Authentication/MasterUsers I couldn't find anything on the OD driver directive....the dovecot 1.1.20-apple build doesn't even have the shadow driver built in (see below the dovecot --build-options), so that passdb shadow {} won't work anyway I always get NO Authentication...
