NetworkManager used to work fine for me but during the last few installations its a big hurdle in the wireless connectivity. I'm using Madwifi and its interface is correctly listed and working but I cannot connect to any wifi AP without NetworkManager. I've two interfaces: eth0 and wifi0. I have an IBM Thinkpad with this beastie in it. The card was immediately recognized and uses the airo driver. No matter what I do, I can't get it to successfully connect to my WAP. Sometimes it sees the access point (as evidenced by an iwlist wifi0 scan seeing the network) and sometimes I can actually get it to connect ( as evidenced by the iwlist command showing the WAP ID). Hi all, It's possible to create an alias of a device? Something like a device loN that all it's traffic is send to ethN, so ethN and loN are equivalent. However, I prefer to use network service instead of NetworkManager since a) I use KDE and NetworkManager fails to work properly there b) this is a desktop machine, online 24/7 and I want wireless active even when I am not logged in. But when I use the network service, wifi0 fails after a delay, and /var/log/messages says there are no dhcp offers available. However, I am sure that there are several wireless networks available, with a strong signal. How to solve this? I would even accept using NM if it works as a daemon, ie even if I'm not logged in, and under KDE...

I have not installed the madwifi specific kernel stuff (kdml and hal-kdml) from atrpms. I have installed with wpa rpms. And my Atheros card is working with almost no work on my part (other than runing wpa_supplicant as a deamon). Nice!
