Lost my madwifi setup
I rebuilt my notebook that has the atheros card in it, and forgot to
save all of my setup to get it working.
I am using dkms and the madwifi rpms from rpmforge.
My modprobe.conf has a line:
alias wifi0 ath_pci
I can ifconfig wifi0 up
But the command:
/usr/sbin/wpa_supplicant wpa_supplicant -dd -D madwifi -i wifi0 -c
/etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
fails.
Now some of my old notes mention using ath0 and a line in modprobe.conf of:
alias ath0 ath_pci
options ath_pci autocreate=sta...

Troubles with NetworkManager
NetworkManager used to work fine for me but during the last few
installations its a big hurdle in the wireless connectivity.
I'm using Madwifi and its interface is correctly listed and working but I
cannot connect to any wifi AP without NetworkManager. I've two interfaces:
eth0 and wifi0. Starting NetworkManager doesn't show any notification icon
in the top right in gnome and I believe its only activating the ath0 instead
of wireless interface wifi0 but still I am unable to see any of the
notification icon in the gnome as I was used to in past for any of the NICs.
The error whi...

Problem with the tc statistcis
I had a linux wireless router. I would like to monitor the queue lengh
of the wireless interface. By default, the wifi0 interface is with
pfifo_fast qdisc which does not report backlog packet. I replaced
pfifo_fast with pfifo:
''tc qdisc replace dev wifi0 root pfifo''
Then I use iperf to send UDP pkts faster than the interface can handle
but when I read the qdisc, the result is like:

wifi network), second one as STA (connection to internet trought 13dB wifi

My current scenario is that i am loading module with autocreate=none
i have in modprobe.conf : options ath_pci autocreate=no
and then in /etc/rc.local script i will create from wifi0 ap , from wifi1
station and configure other settings (ip adresses and so).
What i am trying to do, is to put all configuration to modprobe.conf using
install and remove directives
What i want as a result is to create during startup and loading module AP

RED to use ECN (or work at all?)
Dear Community,
sorry for the somewhat dumb question. Maybe someone has any pointer
to how to setup the RED queue to mark pakets with ECN. In particular
what are appropriate parameter settings for limit, min, max, etc.
All my trials end up with either "RTNETLINK answers: Invalid
argument", although the command line (at least for me) looks fine in
regard to what is said on the

I added to modprobe.conf:

Oh, this notebook has a Broadcom ethernet adapter that is working just

But I have to get the wireless working today! Well maybe by tomorrow.

Problem with iptables with -j TOS and MARK
Hy,
I would want to mark the packets that are entering in a machine, with a
mark for using diffserv with DSMARK.
My machine has 2 interfaces, a ethernet and a wireless. The ethernet
interface is eth1 and the other is wifi0.
Firs, I would want to test that I would be able to mark the tos of the
paquets that I would be receiving, for this I write in the console of my
linux:
iptables -A PREROUTING -i eth1 -t mangle -p udp -j TOS --set-tos 0x20
But the TOS doesn''t change (I see this with ethereal)

prio qdisc broken?
...terfere with this value, olsrd sets the TOS field to 0x10 (Minimize-Delay)
by default. In theory this should give olsr traffic the highest priority on the link.
Investigating this issue I replaced the default Pfifo_fast with a prio qdisc and
attached a pfifo on each of the bands:
INTERFACE=wifi0
tc qdisc add dev $INTERFACE root handle 1: prio
tc qdisc add dev $INTERFACE parent 1:1 handle 10: pfifo
tc qdisc add dev $INTERFACE parent 1:2 handle 20: pfifo
tc qdisc add dev $INTERFACE parent 1:3 handle 30: pfifo
Then I used "ping -Q TOSVALUE target" to send packets wi...

Centos 4 & Cisco 350 MiniPCI Wireless
I have an IBM Thinkpad with this beastie in it. The card was
immediately recognized and uses the airo driver. No matter what I do, I
can't get it to successfully connect to my WAP. Sometimes it sees the
access point (as evidenced by an iwlist wifi0 scan seeing the network)
and sometimes I can actually get it to connect ( as evidenced by the
iwlist command showing the WAP ID). Eventually the connection between
the card and the AP simply dies. I'm not new to wireless and have had
no problems manually configuring other wireless cards to...

loopback network device
Hi all,
It's possible to create an alias of a device? Something like a device
loN that all it's traffic is send to ethN, so ethN and loN are equivalent.
It's for a bridged setup, i'm not trying to setup another IP on a device.
Thanks!

Atheros AR5212/AR5213 wifi not working
...e everything works perfectly. However, I prefer to use network service instead of NetworkManager since
a) I use KDE and NetworkManager fails to work properly there
b) this is a desktop machine, online 24/7 and I want wireless active even when I am not logged in.
But when I use the network service, wifi0 fails after a delay, and /var/log/messages says there are no dhcp offers available. However, I am sure that there are several wireless networks available, with a strong signal.
How to solve this? I would even accept using NM if it works as a daemon, ie even if I'm not logged in, and under KDE...

Yeah, this is why '--source arp' doesn't display anything. And I just
realized that IPv6 doesn't use ARP, so that won't work :-)

Madwifi just seems to work in Centos 5
I have not installed the madwifi specific kernel stuff (kdml and
hal-kdml) from atrpms. I have installed with wpa rpms.
And my Atheros card is working with almost no work on my part (other
than runing wpa_supplicant as a deamon).
Nice!
