Viewport size Q for those with a widescreen Mac.
At the moment I''m short of access to a widescreen Mac. I''m trying to find out what the pixel size of the viewport is on Safari when you have it maximised with tabbed browsing and the standard set of buttons, menus and toolbars in place. I''ve done the same exercise on Firefox and IE7 on Ubuntu Linux and Windows, and for a nominal...

Problem with widescreen display
I have a dual boot CentOS 5.2 / FC4 machine, and recently I have bought a new widescreen tft monitor. I used to use a plain 4:3 crt, and after plugging the 16:9 tft naturally X needed reconfiguring. This was easy in FC4, and seemed as easy in CentOS, but with a wrong result. Basically, what I did was to run system-config-display to reconfigure for the new monitor and resolution. Al...

Problems with widescreen (16:9) under CentOS 5 w/ xorg-x11-drv-i810-1.6.5-9.40.el5
...eir root (/), /usr, and /home file systems via NFS from the server and function otherwise as normal workstations. And they work great with 4:3 monitors. Recently, because of new cataloging and circulation software which seems to have been designed by (open source) developers who probably have new widescreen monitors on their machines, we have put widescreen (16:9) monitors on three of the machines (various menus and toolbars don't fit on a 4:3 monitor, even at 1280x1024 [19-20" monitor]). But we are having some problems getting the proper aspect ratio (or even a display at all) on two of the...

get widescreen 1280x800 for intel 965GM chipset
Dear All, I come from FreeBSD world. This is my first time setting up a CentOS on my laptop Dell Vostro 1400 with intel 965GM chipset. I am having problem here and need your help. I have 5.1 release installed. I have trouble to get 1280x800 resolution. The driver used is I810. I don't know if the chipset is too new for the xorg driver, and can anyone tell me if there is a fix, maybe with

Widescreen monitor with Intel G965 graphics chipset
I just migrated my working Fedora Core 8 desktop to CentOS 5.1 and went from my nice 1680x1050 resolution to 1280x1024. I have made all the possible xorg.conf changes I found on the net to no avail. I tried system-config-display ?reconfig and it allows me to pick the resolution but reverts back to 1280x1024 in X? Anyone know what might need to be done in CentOS for this to work? The skewed aspect

Configuring 1440 x 900 LCD Monitor
CentOS 4.4 Kernel Release 2.6.9-42.0.3.EL Monitor: ViewSonic VX1935WM Video Adapter: Intel 82945 G Express KDE 3.3 Greetings I am attempting to configure my ViewSonic VX1935WM widescreen monitor. Unfortunately this model is not listed in the Display Settings. I have attempted the generic 1440 x 900 LCD monitor listed. This does not provide the required resolution. I have edited /etc/X11/xorg.conf and added my monitor, resolution, refresh rate, and screen size. The problem i...

Widescreen monitor won't configure to a wide screen
I just put a 1680x1050 LCD monitor on my home system, and I went into system-config-display to configure it as such, and it just won't take. I had to tweak some of the settings by hand, but when I log out, I get the wide screen for both the Nvidia driver splash screen and the login screen. But, when I log in, It jumps back to 1280x1024 and refuses to run in wide screen mode. Here's the

No 3D in KDE, other effects work
...have compiz running under XGL. Although Beryl ran fine in Ubuntu 7.04, Compiz will not enable 3D effects such as wobbly windows. Other effects, such as minimize/restore animations, work properly. The machine is a Dell Inspiron 6400 / E1505 laptop, 2Ghz Intel DuoCore2, 2GB RAM, ATI X1400, 1680x1050 widescreen. What should I begin to troubleshoot? Thanks in advance. I think of a layout like in the centos wiki: https://wiki.centos.org/Screenshots?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=screenshot-c7-widescreen.png With panels I mean the lines on top and bottom of a desktop. Screen Resolution issues
Hi. I'm having a rather peculiar problem; when running any fullscreen game that has been set to a smaller resolution than the one I'm using (1680x1050, I have a widescreen monitor), moving my mouse to the edges of the screen kind of shifts the view. For example, I have Warcraft III running at 1280x960, I move my mouse to the right edge of the screen, and then the view moves along with the mouse so that I can only see the right side of the menu, and lots of black on...

Suggestions for Theora
...roblems webmasters have with their videos. 4) Theora should have a feature where when a user plays a video using the Theora player, the video will be compressed so the file size is smaller and it will be faster to load. The quality of the video should remain the same. For example, some 2 hour 16:9 Widescreen?High definition 1080p videos are 4Gigabytes in size, so Theora should compress this 4GB video?into 100MB without losing any quality. 5) Theora should be integrated into the next version of Internet Explorer for Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7. Can someone pass my suggestions onto the Theora developers...

5.x install - loses display when launching anaconda
...on a new system from an install DVD. As soon as the installer launches anaconda, the screen shuts off and from this point I'm unable to switch to any other tty. This is an Intel core2duo machine on an Intel P35 chipset motherboard, Geforce 8400GS video card connected to a BenQ 20" widescreen LCD. Any ideas what could cause this behaviour or how to debug further (obviously I can't see any error messages as my virtual consoles are no loner available)? I think I'll try installing via a serial console when I get home and see if I have more success. Regards, Tom

CentOS 5.2 nVidia GeForce 7300GS resolution problem
I have a Gigabyte nVidia GeForce 7300GS on an Intel DG965WHMKR mobo attached to an LG Flatron LG204WT widescreen monitor. I'm driving the monitor at 1680*1050, and the picture is compressed into the right-hand two-thirds of the screen. The monitor is OK as it's attached via a KVM switch to another machine - also with an nVidia card - and it displays perfectly on that. It looks like some sort of sca...

ATI mobility Radeon HD 5470
...d CentOS 5.5 x86_64 bit. The problem is that there is no driver for the ATI mobility radeon HD5470 and the graphic is so bad! On amd-ati website I have found the catalyst driver version 10.2 butit seems not to be the correct solution. The current screen resolution is 1024x768, but my laptop is widescreen and the best screen resolution is 1366x768. Do you have any suggestion? Thanks in advance .... Wine and multiple X screens at different resolutions
...it gets better every day. However, there is one problem that is almost make or break for me that I wonder is something just on my end or a genuine bug. I represent a small subset of wine users: those who have two LCD screens at different aspect ratios. I have a 20 inch 4:3 LCD at 1280x1024 and a 22 widescreen LCD at 1680x1050. Through Nvidia's control panel, I configured them to run on separate X screens (:0:0 and :0:1) at their respective resolutions. It works great for most things -- except for an odd, glaring bug with running wine applications. My 4:3 is my first screen, and wine somehow assume...

Wine desktop emulation
Hi, if you don't like to read the reason of the question, skip the blue part ;) i usually like to play older games with wine, and many of them are restricted to a screen resolution of SVGA or XGA ect. This looks of course incredibly bad on a Full HD Widescreen. Some of these games offer parameters or modes to play them in windowed mode (DiabloII, ...), some of them do only support the ALT+Return method (which doesn't seem to work in wine?), some of them do neither. Fortunately I can start all games on an emulated Desktop with small size Question:...
