[librsync-devel] librsync and rsync vulnerability to maliciously crafted data. was Re: MD4 checksum_seed
...file md4sum, it
becomes repeatable, but unpredictable. You can't manipulate individual
blocks without it affecting every other blocksum, but the signature for
the same file is always the same. Nice :-)
This would fit in nicely with adding a whole-file checksum to the
signature... generate the wholefile md4sum, and use that as the starting
"seed" for the individual blocksums. The wholefile sum becomes the seed.
This doesn't allow for "permutating" the seed if it happens to result in
blocksum clashes. However, given that the probability if this happening
is pretty astronom...

Disabling "quick check"
Hi:
I've been using rsync to create backups for a few years. A few months ago I
started experiencing sector errors. I ended up replacing the drive and
copying the drive data. It turns out that due to the default behavior of
rsync "quick check", some of the files were modified without altering the
modification time or size, so these files are still clean in the backup. I
would like

That is correct. Rsync will re-copy (delta xfer unless --wholefile)
all the files. You can always --dry-run if you aren't sure.

rsync using huge traffic
Hey,
I'm using rsync to backup my server but there is a problem because
rsync is using very huge amounts traffic. But first to the setup. The
server I backup has 4GB of data and I use the following command to
backup this data. /usr/bin/rsync -aze 'ssh -i /root/.ssh/backup.key -l
backupuser' --rsync-path='sudo rsync' --delete --exclude-from=ex.list
$SRC $TRG
The problem is
