Modules will no longer be automatically included in RSpec version 1.1.4
Can anyone (David?) shed some light on what exactly this warning is
complaining about? I started seeing it when I upgraded to Rails 2.1
RC1 and the latest RSpec from git.
I''m getting it in some helper specs that I''m writing. And yes, I am
including a module there, to reuse some utility methods I originally
wrote for my controller tests (I''m switching to specs

Upgraded to 4.8 - forced to use winbindd - retro how to missing?
We recently upgraded a test server to samba-4.8.3.... but wonder how to
reproduce the legacy behavior with winbind now forced into the picture for
better or worse.
We specifically do not want any of the whiz-bang capabilities of winbind,
just the old familiar mapping of windows usernames to unix usernames.
It seems not sufficient to omit winbind settings in smb.conf; i.e., the
defaults force the "new and improved" behavior.
Thanks much for your advice.

Worth upgrading desktop to 5.1?
I am using CentOS 5.0 on my desktop workstation. Are there any deeply
compelling reasons to upgrade to version 5.1? I read through the release
notes but didn't see any whiz-bang new features. Perhaps some of you can
share your personal experience letting us know if you have noticed any
differences, etc.

Is Ruby on Rails the next step for the new generation?
Hi my 12 year old, WIX, is an amazing auto deductive computer whiz. I
have to keep up...
He is an excellent VB programmer and knows JAVA. I have been told ROR
is the future.
I want to guide WIX so he can build up a good methodical working
knowledge but don''t want him to waste his time on archaic languages
that will not be around soon...Should his next ste...

OT - use of R
Hello, is there an up-to-date reference for how many people use R? I'm
giving an R demo and want to cite wonderful R usage stats. How many
people use it (or download it)? How often is R used in peer-reviewed
pubs, etc. Is there any whiz-bang citation that says something like "R
is great and developed by the best minds in statistical computing." Any
thoughts?

compile error
I've been trying to figure out for a couple of days why I can't get libvorbis to compile. It has me stumped, though I'm not a whiz at compiling from source.
I'm installing on Mac OSX 10.8.2. The relevant commands are:
export CC=clang
./configure --prefix=${TARGET} --build=x86_64 --with-ogg-libraries=${TARGET}/lib --with-ogg-includes=${TARGET}/include/ --enable-static --disable-shared --disable-oggtest && make -j...

Which Linux flavor for a Rails server?
Hi folks,
I''m a linux noob, and I''m trying to pick a distro for my rails server. I
don''t want to start a flame-war about linux distros! I''m interested in the
best distribution for these criteria:
1 - Simplicity of getting ruby and rails set-up (gem updates)
2 - Stability (it is a server, after all)
3 - Support resources (community, and as a fall-back, paid

greater than x bar_t+1 plus Z*sigma_t+1
or
less than x bar_t+1 plus minus Z*sigma_t+1.
where Z is whatever constant ?
I started to try to figure this out but the data window changes and the
x bar is in the formula for sigma so the algebra got overwhelming but I
was never an algebra whiz. thanks.

Shorewall 1.3.12 Released
New features include:
1) "shorewall refresh" now reloads the traffic shaping rules (tcrules
and tcstart).
2) "shorewall debug [re]start" now turns off debugging after an error
occurs. This places the point of the failure near the end of the
trace rather than up in the middle of it.
3) "shorewall [re]start" has been speeded up by more than 40% with

help migrating from file server to NAS w/ Active Directory

on the directories/files - under Windows Explorer the permissions are
listed as "special" and the admins can't change them.
I set up a file server years ago on CentOs using Samba to serve files to
Windows clients. Since then we integrated Active Directory and I had a
windows whiz fix up my Samba config to use AD authentication. So the
server doesn't really have linux users/groups anymore per se. To add a
new user I add them via the AD server then map them in the smb.conf file
- create manually a home directory for them and chown it to their
username. (not sure how t...

Right, it is a directory indeed, but I do not know which specific

install.
Hopefully there is a solution that a non-computer whiz like me can
handle?
Thank you,

Use windbind to keep same passwords between NT4 DOM and linux email?
Hello--
I'm working my way through setting up an email server for faculty and staff
use at the school my wife teaches at, and while not a Linux whiz, am making
good progress so far. The school has a NT 4 server which is used for domain
authentication, and I am trying to grapple with whether I can achieve the
"holly grail" of synchronized passwords between the email server on Linux
and the NT server.
Looking at using winbind it appear...

oggenc: feature request
...a command line option be added to allow the user to set the first
serial number to be used for the output ogg stream?
This only takes a few lines of code, actually.
Rationale: it is quite helpful for debugging other encoders. If oggenc is
the "reference" encoder, ensuring that your new whiz-bang encoder has
diffable output to oggenc is a quick-n-dirty way to check that your
encoder is Correct.
One thing that makes it non-diffable is the random serial number. Hence,
if I can guarantee that the serial number in my encoder is the same as the
serial number that was used to generate some...

Tom, in your faq, u have this noted:
While I am currently using the HTB version of The Wonder Shaper (I just

the Wondershaper README),
I treid this with wondershaper, using Bearing Leaf 1.0 stable
i even changed the tc command to run_tc, and tried it in both angles,
and i receive the following..
