running jail with alternate IP
...ternal interface of the firewall, and succeeded in having the internal computers use those extra public IPs. What I want to do is have 5 copies of ddclient all running in separate jails bound to different public IPs. I did some experimenting with jail, jailing a shell and then running lynx to www.whatismyip.com. I had to open up the firewall to get it to work, and then it gave me the public IP address bound to the first IP on the interface. Looking at the firewall logs, it seems as if jail is sending packets on the main IP (the non-aliased one), but modifying the header so they return to the aliased...

IP of FW showing instead of server''s IP
...proxyarp: xxx.23.52.145 eth1 eth0 - yes xxx.23.52.146 eth1 eth0 - yes xxx.23.52.147 eth1 eth0 - yes xxx.23.52.148 eth1 eth0 - yes xxx.23.52.149 eth1 eth0 - yes etc This works fine, all my servers in DMZ can be addressed by their own IP address just fine, but if I go to something like : http://www.whatismyip.com/ from one of the servers, it always shows my FW IP address, instead of the each server''s IP address. Do you have any idea why this is? I don''t think I am running a caching proxy on the FW, not sure where to check that though... Thanks for any suggestions, Richard.

Both Dom0 and DomU have the same ip address...
...ich then turns into eth0 on domU it comes out as having the same ip address. Then again I might be confused. I have a router which has the default gateway of 192.168.1.1 so I know that''s where dom0 and domU hook up to the internet. So here is my confusion. I''ve been using www.whatismyip.com to find out my ipaddress. I know this is the external ip address. Also, I''ve been using route -n to get dom0 and domU''s internal ip address. That address would be the 1st ip address from the output in route -n? If that''s true, they''re both 198.168.1.0 Bu...

How to build a server
Hi, I''ve been learning about building Rails apps for about 8 months but I don''t really know how servers work or how to build a server. I have an old 450 GHz Pentium computer I can play with. Since I use OS X, I was thinking about installing a BSD system and trying to make a MySQL/Rails server. That is about all I know about servers. How does a server in my house get connected

Loadbalancing and failover using TC and Iptables
....com iam able to see the trafffic going to both interfaces.. till now works fine when i connected to eth2 ( eth2 of linux box configured IP 192.168.3.2) with my Laptop using ip 192.168.3.1 gateway 192.168.3.2( linux box eth2) when try to traceroute its always going to y.y.y.9 when i go and check whatismyip.com and findmyip.com its shows only y.y.y.10 IP, why my traffic is not balancing using both the routes ?? when i change the my rule like following ip route replace default equalize table 222 proto static nexthop via x.x.x.233 dev eth1 when try to traceroute its always going to y.y.y.233 when i...

Routers that do not show external IPs...
I have a customer that has a Trendnet TEW-435BRM router which has the bad habit of rewriting all external connections so the Asterisk server only sees the IP address of the router itself. Up to today this has not been a problem since all extensions are on the local network but now they want to have a couple external IP phones (SIP). I opened up the ports on the router and my phone can register.

Multi-path routing only using last nexthop in default route.
I''ve applied julian''s paches to a 2.6.14 gentoo kernel with the appropiate options enabled, and i''m using a modified version of the mpath2.sh script also available on julian''s site http://www.ssi.bg/~ja/ Overall everything works nearly perfectly. Incomming connections to either the fios (PPPoE) connection, or cable modem get routed back out correctly. The

No "ssh -X hostname" doesn't work. But when you "export DISPLAY=..." it works!? I set the the Display Hack so that I can see my IP with "env" or "echo SSH_CLIENT" when I'm connect via VPN-Tunnel and I don't know my IP in the Net I'm connected through.
