Configuration for binding to "secure" ports?
...quot;secure" ports (with restrictions) or having to deal with
setuid root exploits? Of course, there would be security issues
dealing with the portadmin program or config file, but I think those
would be minor compared to what can be done with, say, a broken named
running as root.

Warning regarding new kernel RPMs
The instructions in RHSA-2000:037-01 (2.2.16 kernel update) tell you:
4. Solution:
For each RPM for your particular architecture, run:
rpm -Fvh [filename]
where filename is the name of the RPM.
These instructions are incomplete and may result in a system that
is unbootable.
After updating the RPM files, you should also:
(1) run mkinitrd to create a new initial ramdisk image

IMAPD fix for RH
You probably know this already, but the following notice appeared to bugtraq.
As a side note the protocol on bugtraq seems to be designed to make a fix
available before the announcement by providing one yourself or giving the
maintainer a week's advance warning (M$ gets a lot longer warning and *still*
fails to fix the bugs before bugtraq knows).
Having said that M$ insists on allowing me

Bind Overrun Bug and Linux

Has anyone been hit with the Bind Inverse Query Buffer Overrun on
their Linux servers? We have had 3 servers attacked using this
expoit and all of the machines had several binaries replaced with
trojan
