Learning smb.conf file
I have just started playing around with Samba and have run into a mental
block / learning hurdle
Here is what I have
I have a WinNT box that acts as a PDC for a domain (mydomain for the sake of
this post). Within 'mydomain' I have several workgroups (wg1, wg2, wg3, etc)
Now here is where I get confused. I am trying to set up the Samba Server so
it will work as follows
[general]
this will be for all the general stuff which everyone in the domain can see
[wg1]
this item will only accessible by those in the wg1 workgroup
[wg2]
this item will only...

Hello,

Cross-domain share access via same user+password doesn't work anymore
I having the same issue like:
https://forge.univention.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=47314
I have 2 samba servers running with nearly identical configs:
ii samba 2:3.6.6-6+deb7u15
ii samba-common 2:4.9.5+dfsg-5+deb10u1
The problem is that for old os-es like Win9X the username cannot be

Browsing a workgroup in another subnet
...nfiguration options for remote
announce and remote browse sync work for browsing a different workgroup
in a different subnet. In the books I have, it just talks about using
these options to span the same workgroup across two subnets.
In our situation, for example, I have two different workgroups (WG1 -
10.50.50.1 and WG2 - 10.100.50.1). Each of these workgroups has their
own server which is also the local master browser (SRV1 for WG1 and SRV2
for WG2). These are also the domain masters for their workgroups.
My questions are, if anyone can help:
1. Should these both be WINS servers or should...

Our company has three offices in different cities plus a head office.
All of those office are linked using VPNs. For now, we have a domain at
the head office using samba3 as a PDC, a master LDAP server for
authentication. The other offices a configured as Workgroup (WG1, WG2
and WG3) and are relatively independant and on their own. We would like
to centralize all the information but keep the bandwith use to minimal.
I would like to setup a BDC and a LDAP slave in each office.
My concern is not about how to configure Samba and LDAP for
authentication. It is mo...

Failed to find cifs/fs-share@dom.corp (kvno 109) in keytab
Hi Rowland, I refer again after a week, perhaps missing an important piece
to the big picture: the error message appears ONLY when you access the
share using the netbios alias:
[Global]
workgroup = WG1
realm = DOM.CORP
netbios name = fs-a
netbios aliases = oldsamba
security = ADS
if you access the \\fs-a\sharename is ok if you access
\\oldsamba\sharename the logs report the absence of the kerberos ticket,
to overcome this I have to re-import the oldsamba keytab with ktutil.

Help On Multiple Netgroups Across Multiple Subnets
...ba servers as the WINS server,
4. setting up all other machines to point to the WINS server.
All of the above was done for a netgroup called "WORKGROUP".
Everything was working. I was able to browse all the WORKGROUP
names from all subnets.
Now somebody want to add a few netgroups (say, WG1, WG2). They
also span subnets. Our current WINS server only handles WORKGROUP
names. I know that if I setup one WINS server for each netgroup,
I should be all set. But my question is if it's possible to still
use the one WINS server for all of the netgroups. This will save
me a lot of troubl...

Convert existing System to PV
Greetings!
Is there a tutorial how to create a domU from an existing system (SUSE-9.3)?
It should decribe all the steps from the very begin: copy the exiting
system to an image etc, etc.
The dom0 is a openSUSE-11.3, if that matters.
I''ve been researching quite a while but did not find any suitable.
Thanks for hints

xen3 domU on xen4 dom0
Greetings!
Trying to to run a xen3 domU on a xen4 dem0 I run into problems.
The xen server ''XEN1''(dom0) is openSUSE-11.3 (kernel 2.6.34) and xen-4.0.1.
With qemu I created an image ''M08.raw'' from the SUSE-9.3
(kernel 2.6.11) and XEN-3.0 installation CD''s.
The XEN modules were included in the installation.
In M08.raw/boot I configured grub/menu.lst:
