Generating new variable based on values of an existing variable
Dear R Help-Listers:
I have a problem that seems like it should have a simple solution, but I've spent hours on it (and searching the r-help archives) to no avail. What I'd like to do is to generate a new variable within a data frame, the values of which are dependent upon the values of an existing variable within that data frame.
Assume that I have the following data:

Asterisk 16 Certified 16.8 and MagicJack Incoming Calls
I upgraded our Asterisk 13 LTS to Asterisk 16 Certified 16.8 yesterday and
converted form SIP to PJSIP using the python script as a start and then
mofiying from there. I ran into an issue when testing that incoming calls
from MagicJack would go silent after about 10 seconds. This happened while in
the automated attendant area. This problem did not occur with Asterisk 13
LTS. I reverted PJSIP

cross tabulation: convert frequencies to percentages
Hello,
might be rather easy for R pros, but I've been searching to the dead
end to ...
twsource.area <- table(twsource, area, useNA="ifany")
gives me a nice cross tabulation of frequencies of two factors, but
now I want to convert to pecentages of those absolute values. In
addition I'd like an extra column and an extra row with absolute sums.
I know, Excel or the

Hi,
I'm sorry to dig this old post, but first of all : thanks for this answer. I had the same problem with the Native Instrument Vintage Keys and it solved my problem. :)

I am on Ubuntu 10.11 with wine-1.3.33
I did :

Confidence interval bars on Lattice barchart with groups
I am trying to add confidence (error) bars to lattice barcharts (and
dotplots, and xyplots). I found this helpful message from Deepayan
Sarkar and based teh code below on it:
http://finzi.psych.upenn.edu/R/Rhelp02a/archive/50299.html
However, I can't get it to work with groups, as illustrated. I am sure I
am missing something elementary, but I am unsure what.

glm and Newey-West estimator
Dear R-users,
has anybody combined the glm function with the Newey-West estimator of
variance, similar as in Stata 7.0? I'd like to estimate corrected
standard errors within a logistic regression model, taking into account
the auto-correlated binary observations within individuals.
I use R1.5.1 on Mac OS X (10.2).
Thanks,
Christof

Expanding rows of a data frame into multiple rows
The setup: I have a data frame where one column is in list mode, and
each entry contains a vector of varying length.
I want to expand this into a data frame with one row for each member
of the list-mode column (the other values being replicated)
For example, an example input and the desired output would be:
input <- data.frame(site = 1:6,

[LLVMdev] llvm.org outage
Dear LLVMers,
There is some scheduled network outages detailed below that affect the llvm.org servers and LLVM Mailing lists. The LLVM server is housed on the fourth floor. I am not sure which rooms house the mailing list servers. All times are Central Standard Time.
If someone from Illinois can distill the relevant parts of this message for LLVM users, I would be most appreciative. I am out

ProxyJump does not accept IPv6 for the intermediate host?
Hello,
it seems I cannot use:
$ ssh -J root at 2a01:4f8:1c1e:528d::1 root at west-coast
Invalid -J argument
(The west-coast is stored on the jump host in between in /etc/hosts.)
$ ssh -J root at 167.235.141.44 root at west-coast
Works as expected. Also
$ ssh root at 2a01:4f8:1c1e:528d::1
does work as expected. I do have native IPv6.
This is on Debian 12 Bookworm:

I have a dataframe with almost a million rows which has one column
with strings. That column has several entries with the words "South",
"North", "East" and "West" which I would like to replace with S, N, E,

$col2 <- gsub("West", "W", df$col2) which will require

Newey West HAC for pooled cross-section data
Hello:
My dataset set contains several thousand rows of data, with each row
containing information for a house. The variables include the sale price of
the house, the quarter and year of sale, the attributes of the house, and
the attributes of the neighborhood and the city in which the house is
located. The data is for a 10-year period. No house is repeated in the
dataset. In summary, the dataset

Regroup and create new dataframe

I have a big project to work on and the dataset is classified so I am just
going to use my own example so everyone can understand what I am targeting.
Let's take Target as an example: We consider three brands of tape: Target
brand, 3M and Avery. The original data frame has 4 columns: Year of Record,
Product_Name(which contains three brands of tape), Sales, and Region. I

Puppet agent hangs for over a minute, no info in --summarize
Hoping you guys might be able to help me out, I''m not sure what''s
wrong but puppet agent hangs for over a minute, no resource spikes
(CPU, memory, etc all stay basically the same as without starting
puppet, barely a blip, and I''ve got more than enough headroom). It''s
not a serious issue for continuous usage, but really, really annoying
when testing the manifests
