Authentication and the wrong mailbox?
...s. One
thing for UW is that this situation never happened, and I've only had
dovecot running for about 13hrs.
Any ideas as to how or why this may have happened, and how it can be
prevented, would be wonderful.

Logwatch
Having FC3 systems and utilizing Dovecot, I have come to rely on some of
the information I get from the daily logwatch run.
Logwatch, by default, doesn't properly recognize dovecot's information
in the messages file, but it is easy to tweak. The patch below will
give you some statistics regarding POP3 and IMAP usage.
I believe I grabbed all of the differences in the unified diff

Syslog, Dovecot, and LogWatch
At what level does Dovecot log to syslog? UW-IMAP uses local6.debug to
log to syslog, but it doesn't seem that dovecot does the same.. (the
file I defined for UW-IMAP's output hasn't received anything since I
moved over to Dovecot?
Also, has anyone managed to get LogWatch and Dovecot to play nicely
together? I noticed that LogWatch no longer gives any statistics on the

Error installing Rails/FastCGI/Apache2
Trying to install rails/fcgi/apache2. Following these instructions:
http://xmlareas.com/ruby-rails-howto.html
Using Fedora Core 4. I installed ruby and ruby-devel using apt-get.
Everything under Adding FastCGI (optional) works fine up to the gem install
fcgi part. Here is what happens:

File isn't in mbox format - Couldn't open INBOX
While I saw another thread on the list similar to the issue I was
experiencing
(http://dovecot.org/pipermail/dovecot/2005-February/006168.html), I was
wondering if there was a way around this problem (the thread simply
suggested upgrading, but are the later version (specifically the
1.0-test releases) ready for prime time?)...
We're periodically having this with some users (not sure what

Dovecot Stable (or: When is 1.0 coming to a server near you?)
I'm mainly just curious, but what version of dovecot is considered to be
stable enough to be running in a production environment?
We're running the 0.99.13 version shipped with FC3 and, while
experiencing great performance gains over UW-IMAP, we have hit a couple
of snags here and there (random and infrequent characters at the
beginning of a mailbox, periodic duplication of a message

syslog messages
(I sent this last night, but to the wrong address.. argh)
After an upgrade to FC5, and a rebuild and install of dovecot 1.0RC7,
I've been getting a LOT of syslog messages like the following:
Sep 26 21:47:55 myhost dovecot-auth: nss_ldap: reconnected to LDAP
server ldap://ldap.mydomain.com after 1 attempt
Now, everything is working fine as far as I can tell (it's only been a

dovecot 0.99.xx to 1.0-stable how-to?
I realize that there have been some big changes in features and
configuration file settings between 0.99.xx and 1.0-stable, so when I
went to perform an upgrade on our testing server, I carefully combed
through the configuration files and matched up everything I could.
I fired up dovecot-1.0-stable and was pleased to see that it was happily
running. I attempted to connect to it, and

Printing failure through PDC
I recently went through a system upgrade, which resulted in an upgrade
of Samba to 3.0.28a. This is for a home network, so it isn't heavily
taxed (only by family members), but I do use the environment as a
sandbox of sorts for stuff that I plan to roll in to production in the
office.
I had some funky issues with authentication to start with after the
upgrade, so I went through the
