Can someone tell me how to configure my unix printers so that no banner page is printed at the beginning of a print job? I have gotten the printing to work, but I want to stop the banner page. What file do I change to configure that? AIX, 4.2.1, with NT Clients. Thanks in Advance, Pattee Bender Uniform Color Company

SMBD Runs as root
Since loading 2.0.x of Samba, the SMBD process is always ran as "root" when users connect. I just compiled Samba 2.0.3 on a AIX 4.2 to fix it according to the enhancement document. SMBD is still running as "root" on 2.0.3. Does anybody have a work around for this. Tom Harris Denton CAD tomh@iglobal.net

Visual C++ fails to recognize changed file
We're having a problem that is the reverse of prblems that others have had: if we have a file open in Visual C++, and change it from another editor (either on the PC or on Unix), Visual C++ does not notice that it has been changed and ignores the file when it does a make. If the file is on a local drive, everything works fine. We're running Samba version 2.0.4b on Solaris 2.6 and Visual

Compiling on AIX3.2.5
I have tried to compile 2.0.4b and 2.0.5a on AIX3.2.5 and it gives a problem when I test it with "smbclient -L bigserver", that was discussed in the archives. I thought it was fixed. It gives:- [1999/07/22 20:57:05, 0] smbd/uid.c:(68) Couldn't set effective uid to 207. Currently set to (real=0,eff=0). Error was Not owner [1999/07/22 20:57:05, 0] smbd/service.c:(463) Can't

How to set up spooling for a HP JetDirect interface?
I've set up Samba and LPRng for HP printers with JetDirect cards. It works for one user at a time. But if the printer is off-line or busy, the samba client does not get an error message, but the job gets lost. :( I would like the print jobs to be spooled on Linux even when there is an active print job or when the printer is off-line. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with lpd. The

Anyone successfully using a HP 8000 DN (with JetDirect module and IP) with samba?
Anyone successfully using a HP 8000 DN or HP 5 Lsi (with JetDirect module and assigned IP) with samba? Subject says it all. If you're successfully doing this, what configs made it work? FAQs tell how to set up with a print server, but what if the printer itself is the server? Trust me, the HP doesn't know jack about port 139. Using samba 2.0.4 on Solaris 7 and NT 4.0 SP5 with

Samba causing problems with NT tools
Samba is causing a couple huge problems for the NT admins here since we switched a bunch of machines to security=server and started running nmbd. We're running Samba 2.0.2 and 2.0.3 on a mix of Solaris, HP-UX, and OSF1 machines. One, selecting a Samba server in Server Manager, then selecting Computer/ Services causes Server Manager to crash ("An application error has occurred, blah blah,

failing connection
Hi, Last week I build a minimum net work. On a swich there is a firewall, a win98SE-box and a linux box as samba-server. Ping to each o these machines are going well. The Win-box 'sees' the filestructure of the linux-box. At the other hand the linux box can see neither localhost, the linuxbox or the win-box. I didn't configure winbind and LDAP. On all machines hosts and lmhosts are
